Carers Week raises awareness of the vital role unpaid carers play, the challenges they face, including inequality, isolation, and missed opportunities - and this engaging session offers a chance for carers and professionals alike to learn about support, wellbeing, rights, and best practice while connecting and sharing experiences.

Whether you’re a carer, professional, partner organisation, or someone passionate about supporting unpaid carers, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn, connect, and share best practice.

They look good enough to eat, but look a little closer – these delicious looking treats are made out of paper! Talented members of our 4ME Day Activity Service have been busy getting crafty to celebrate National Biscuit Day. Group activities like this are great at building confidence, encouraging social interaction and – most importantly - having fun. Outstanding work everyone!

It’s our monthly carers get-together tomorrow (May 21) where you can have a cuppa and a chat with people who ‘get it’.’ If you’re thinking about joining us for the first time, we’d love to see you there. It’s a completely relaxed environment aimed at helping you have some ‘me’ time – you don’t have to talk about caring!
You’ll find us at the community table in the Atrium, Greyfriars Church, Friar Street, Reading RG1 1EH from 10.30am – 12.30pm.
PS: The refreshments are on us.

Worried about a loved one turning your gas cooker on accidentally? A Locking Cooker Valve is a simple safety device that can be fitted to your existing gas pipework for free by our energy partner, SGN. When the valve is locked, it stops the gas supply to the cooker – this gives peace of mind if you care for someone with a learning disability or autism and feel anxious about the cooker being unintentionally turned on or left on. If you think you would benefit from having a Locking Cooker Valve installed, it's quick and easy to apply. Contact the team at Reading Mencap for help. Call us on 0118 966 2518 or email [email protected]
