UN is brutally honest about the failure of reaffirming NPT commitments but diplomatic regarding who to blame.

The cost of obstructing transparency receives fresh attention

2 months has passed since the Mirror broke the story: AWE and MOD knew veterans ate contaminated fishes. There has been a lengthy parliamentary debate since this revelation. Minister for Veterans and People committed "to undertake work to fully understand the implications of the 2014 report and its handling, and to take action if necessary", but nothing has come out of this yet.

The cost of cover up won't be forgotten, rather it accumulates, just like contamination in the body.

Chris Hill, Professor of History at the University of South Wales, and Dr Jonathan Hogg, Senior Lecturer in 20th Century History at the University of Liverpool, write for The Conversation on the impact of the UK nuclear test programme on veterans across the country.

A spokesperson for the Office for Nuclear Regulation said:
"Site licensees such as AWE are legally required to maintain robust
processes for managing their sites safely in all circumstances,
including during periods of industrial action.

"We have obtained evidence from AWE to demonstrate that both sites (Aldermaston and Burghfield) will remain fully compliant with legal requirements during the industrial action.

"We will continue to regulate AWE effectively throughout this period."
