Heat Wave Safety Procedures

During the heat wave JAC will continue to monitor weather forecasts daily and make
appropriate changes throughout the day as needed.
JAC has updated the procedure to help mitigate against any risks caused by the
Heat Wave as detailed below.
JAC has adequate drinking water in both kitchens, hydrating drinks are provided in
the fridge. Shade is available in the stables, hay and animal barns as well as the
willow arches. Cooling facilities and rest areas are available in the kitchens, studio,
loft and the office
Control Measures for Sessions:
 JAC Staff will continue to work with the young people as they are already
onsite for animal care. We aim this will help keep continuity for SEN children
and young people
 There is no pressure for any sessions to attend JAC if you feel it would be too
difficult or stressful. * Please notify the office team so we can reallocate
the activities [email protected]
 Art sessions can continue as normal as the studio is air conditioned
 Horticulture sessions will work in shady areas of the site or indoors and will
not be permitted into the Poly tunnel
 Animal and Equine sessions have adapted session plans to ensure that:
Any physically demanding tasks are only to be completed during cooler
periods (morning sessions).
o Any sessions past 11am have been adapted to be in the shady areas
or inside the stables/barns where there is a large air flow.
o All handling of the SA will be restricted, and handling of the Equines
will be limited by the mentor’s discretions for their welfare and needs.
* Please note there may be short times out in the sun to collect equipment or move
to a different shady location.

 We have suspended non-essential activities during extreme temperatures –
o All riding lessons will be cancelled
o Any heavy handling or endurance tasks to be rolled to a future date
o Any non-essential handling of the equine/animals to be paused until
the extreme heat has passed
