It's all happening at Wandsworth RNLI:

- New station
- New name (Hello Wandsworth Riverside Lifeboat Station, formerly Chiswick 👋)
- And their incredible car recovery during last year's floods featuring on Saving Lives At Sea tonight!

After launching on the River Thames, securing a submerged car and checking the area for any potential risks, a lovely surprise was waiting for our crew... a balcony of cheering supporters 🥹

Don't get caught out! ⚠️

In 2025, RNLI lifeboats launched to 325 tidal cut off rescues.

Watch as RNLI Anstruther Lifeboat rescue walkers cut off by the tide.

When walking at the coast, remember:
- Always check the weather and tide times.
- Let someone know where you’re going and when you plan to be back.
- Always carry a mobile phone.
- Call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard in an emergency.

Join us in wishing a very happy 91st birthday to His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent 💙

The Duke has been our President since 1969 and has visited almost every lifeboat station during His Royal Highness’ 57-year tenure.

This year, The Duke joined us in celebrating our incredible lifeguards who have been keeping our seasides safer for 25 years. To recognise their incredible commitment to lifesaving, a group of past and present lifeguards joined His Royal Highness at Kensington Palace to celebrate Lifeguard Appreciation Day.

The volunteers and staff at the RNLI send their best wishes and all our thanks for The Duke’s unwavering commitment to saving lives at sea.

‘It’s one of those sights you never get tired of seeing’ 🥹

During a training exercise, the volunteer crew at Littlehampton RNLI Lifeboat Station were joined by a pod of dolphins, giving them an unforgettable experience 🐬

It takes a team 🤝

Our crew at RNLI Buckie Lifeboat took part in a training exercise with a search and rescue paramedic winchperson who was lowered from a helicopter onto our lifeboat, travelling through the sea at 25mph!

Training alongside other emergency services helps us stay ready for when it really matters.

A great example of the teamwork that helps save lives at sea 💙

Things may look a little different now, but one thing remains the same…

When the call comes in that someone is in danger in the water, our volunteer crews will launch 🌊

Here's how a launch from a very steep slipway in Newquay looked in 1924, compared to Whitby RNLI lifeboat launching now!

When we say our mission is to save lives at sea... animals are included 🥰

From sheep to cows, seagulls to ducklings, here's the animals we saved this year that weren't on our 2026 bingo card!
Angle Lifeboat RNLI rescued a sheep after it fell off a cliff! The crew secured it with a rope and safely re-released it into the field with its friends. And just recently, they provided safety cover after eight cows had fallen from a cliff 😮

Gravesend RNLI rescued a young seagull and gave it water and bourbon biscuits for strength. In a seperate rescue, the Gravesend crew also helped to guide a horse back to safety when it got into difficulty in the Thames!

When Kirkcudbright RNLI Lifeboat Station crew members spotted a duckling that had fallen down a drain, they didn't hesitate to rescue it!

Seagulls are a common sight for our volunteers and for Newhaven RNLI, they even rescued one! After getting caught in a hook and wrapped in line, the seagull was trapped in rocks but thankfully, our volunteers were there to help!

During the Second World War, our courageous lifeboat volunteer crews saved 6,376 lives at sea.

To commemorate their bravery, we recently invited a sand artist and two local Girl Guide groups to join us at Rhyl beach, to create an 80 metre piece of artwork in the sand.

The artist, Jamie, said: ‘The people that took part were able to draw or write within the numbers. And it was wonderful 'cause it's like you've got this thing where we're looking in the past but actually, those children that are there now, they may need that helping hand from the RNLI, and I may too. So it's really nice to see that circle.’

RNLI Moelfre Lifeboat rescue a soggy spaniel from the side of a cliff 😲

Ember the spaniel found herself on the side of a cliff when chasing after her tennis ball, luckily our Moelfre lifeboat volunteers were right around the corner 💙

Ember's family did the right thing by waiting for our trained crew instead of going in after her! Always call 999 and ask for the coastguard if your dog is in difficulty.
