This week is - an opportunity for charities like ours to say a huge thank you to all of the volunteers who make our work possible.

We have a team of 60 volunteers across east Dorset, all helping you to responsibly and support you in your journey towards making more sustainable choices.

Our volunteers contribute in excess of 2000 hours of their time each year - so we know how lucky we are to have their support and enthusiasm.

Thank you all for all you do on our behalf!!

Fun Fact Friday – e-waste is one of the fastest growing sources of rubbish but if we recycled all our old electricals we would cut as much CO2 as taking 3.8 million cars off the road. There are lots of options for recycling electronic items visit Recycle Your Electricals for local options. Some Win on Waste sessions take mobile phones and cables.

Fun Fact Friday – it’s estimated that you could drive a car 11 metres on the oil it takes to make 1 plastic bag – that might not sound much but we use approx. use 437 million single-use carrier bags in the UK each year. The great thing is swapping to reusable bags is super easy!

We're delighted to remain involved in the Merley Defibrillator project!

A proportion of the wires and cables collected by Win on Waste go towards funding the upkeep of the Defibrillator in Merley - it can be over £200 annually to keep this valuable resource in working condition and ready for use.

We're proud to share that the replacement defibrillator that we funded through a Making A Difference Locally donation is now installed at the Selkirk Close Community Lounge, replacing the one we originally funded back in late 2016.

We also want to say a huge thank you to Sue Weall from Merley Community Defibrillator Project for organising this and having us involved, and also a huge thank you to Marion Burton too from Win on Waste who's hard work collecting scrap wire and cable raises the funds that support the ongoing annual maintenance of the defibrillator!

Fun Fact Friday and it’s a great one this week – it’s estimated that the energy saved by recycling glass in the UK would be enough to launch 5 space shuttles (and I’m pretty sure that’s quite a lot) BUT there is still 1 in 4 glass bottles not being recycled so there’s still room for improvement!
