RIP Graham.

We are very sorry to share the sad news that our long-time friend of the station, Graham Bolding, has passed away.

Graham was a much-valued member of our fundraising committee for many years and a dedicated Tuesday morning volunteer in the Museum. He gave his time generously and supported the station in countless ways, always quietly and without ever seeking recognition.

Many of us will remember the wonderful friendship he shared with Alan, his Tuesday morning partner in the Museum. Together they became a familiar sight, and their companionship was something special. Graham was incredibly generous, often sourcing and donating fantastic raffle prizes, he would also quietly bid for auction lots to donate back, just to help with the fundraising, he never wanted any fuss or attention; he simply wanted to help. Behind his gruff understated manner was a wonderfully kind and generous heart.

Graham also had a passion for cars. It wasn't unusual for him to arrive at the station in his latest Porsche or Audi and offer anyone who fancied it a spin along Holes Bay—back when the speed limit was a little more forgiving! He would pop in the station for a brew, a friendly moan and the inevitable discussion about how to put the world to rights.

He also had a thoughtful way of making people feel valued. He would send electronic greeting cards, they would arrive unexpectedly and somehow always made you feel remembered, appreciated and part of his circle of friends.

When the Old Lifeboat Museum closed during the COVID pandemic, Graham and Alan made sure their Tuesday tradition continued. They met each week, socially distanced in Alan's garden, proving that their friendship meant far more than simply volunteering together. It was a bond built on genuine affection, laughter and loyalty.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Graham's family and friends at this very sad time, and especially with Alan, who has lost not only a fellow volunteer but a dear friend.

God bless you, Graham. Thank you for your friendship, your generosity and your quiet kindness. We will remember you with great affection, gratitude and a smile.
