Leonardo Carer Support at Bournemouth ElderFest 2026! 💚

On Monday, our wonderful Sini attended Bournemouth ElderFest 2026, a fantastic community event bringing together older people, unpaid carers and organisations offering information, advice, activities and support. 🎉

The event welcomed over 280 residents and more than 30 local organisations, creating a brilliant opportunity for people to discover the support available within their community. 🤝

Sini had a busy and rewarding day, speaking with around 50 unpaid carers about the services offered by Leonardo Carer Support and helping connect people with other relevant organisations and sources of support. 💬💜

One thing that really stood out was how many unpaid carers were unaware of the amazing support available to them or unsure how to access it. This highlights just how important events like ElderFest are in helping carers find the information, guidance and support they need. 💚

The event also offered a wonderful range of health and wellbeing activities, including biometric health testing, hand reflexology, vaccinations and a dedicated quiet room for carers and the people they support. 🌿

At Leonardo Carer Support, we want every unpaid carer to know that you are not alone, and support is available. Whether you need advice, access to grants, counselling, help with a short break or simply someone to talk to, we are here for you. 💜

A huge thank you to everyone who organised, attended and supported Bournemouth ElderFest 2026. It was fantastic to be part of an event that helps raise awareness, build connections and make support more accessible to our local community. 👏

Well done Gillingham Medical Practice on your support for carers 🏅

Congratulations to Gillingham Medical Practice on achieving their second GP Carer Friendly Health Award, recognising their continued commitment to identifying and supporting unpaid Carers. ❤️🏆

Amongst other Carer facing commitments, they have made a practice-wide Carer Identification text message generating 240 responses and helped increase the Carer Register to around 400 Carers.

Gillingham has developed a Young Carers Welcome Pack, held a successful Carers Week event attended by 36 Carers, and introduced a One Stop Shop for Carers where people can access advice, support and information in one place.

Having also been nominated in 2023, Gillingham Medical Practice continues to show how practical, whole-practice changes can help Carers feel recognised, valued and better supported.

Across Dorset, free peer support groups are available, offering unpaid carers a friendly and welcoming space to:

🤝 Meet others who understand the realities of caring
💬 Share experiences and talk openly
💙 Find understanding and emotional support
🌱 Build new friendships and connections

Groups are available in Blandford, Bridport, Gillingham, Lyme Regis, Shaftesbury, Sherborne and Wareham, and are open to all unpaid carers, including those who have recently experienced bereavement! 🤍
