Would you like to support your local community, learn new skills, and help provide meals for people who need them?

Poole Community Exchange is seeking Volunteer Kitchen Assistants to support our Cook in our busy and friendly community kitchen.

Flexible Volunteering Opportunities

We are looking for 1-2 volunteers, or a small team of volunteers, who can help during the kitchen's operating hours:

Monday: 7:30am to 12:30pm

Wednesday: 10:30am to 12:30pm

Friday: 7:30am to 12:30pm

You don't need to commit to every session. We're happy to discuss a pattern that works for you.

What You'll Be Doing

Assisting with food preparation and serving.

Supporting the Cook with kitchen tasks.

Helping maintain a clean and organised kitchen.

Learning about food safety and community catering.

Working as part of a friendly and inclusive team.

Who We're Looking For

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds. You may be:

Looking to gain experience in catering or hospitality.

Interested in supporting local community projects.

Seeking experience in teaching, mentoring, or supporting others.

Happy to work alongside volunteers with learning disabilities and varied levels of experience.

Reliable, friendly, and eager to learn.

Cook (Paid Position)

Poole Community Exchange

Salary: £12.71 per hour
Hours: 12 hours per week

Monday: 7:30am to 12:30pm (5 hours)

Wednesday: 10:30am to 12:30pm (2 hours)

Friday: 7:30am to 12:30pm (5 hours)

About the Role

Poole Community Exchange is looking for a creative and enthusiastic Cook to lead our community kitchen. This is a rewarding opportunity to support local people while helping to develop the skills and confidence of volunteers, including those with learning disabilities and individuals with limited kitchen experience.

Working with available food donations and produce, you'll plan and prepare nutritious, affordable meals for our community while creating a welcoming and supportive environment for volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

Plan weekly menus based on available produce and food supplies.

Prepare and cook meals in line with food hygiene and safety standards.

Lead and coordinate a team of volunteers in the kitchen.

Support volunteers with varying abilities and experience levels.

Provide training, guidance, and encouragement to volunteers.

Maintain a clean, organised, and safe kitchen environment.

Assist with stock management and food rotation.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

Is passionate about food and community support.

Has, or is willing to obtain, a Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification (training to Level 3 can be provided).

Has experience working in a kitchen environment.

Is confident leading and motivating volunteers.

Is patient, supportive, and comfortable working alongside people with learning disabilities.

Can work creatively and flexibly with available ingredients.

Has experience in training, mentoring, or teaching others (desirable but not essential).

What We Offer

The Pantry is open Monday and Friday from 11.45am-1.15pm.

The PANTRY (Shopping) will be closed on Wednesday , OPEN Monday or Friday only for shopping.

Please bear in mind that Community lunches, Community Fridge, Living Room and Poole Food Bank satellite location offering crisis food parcels STAY OPEN as usual.

ADDITIONALLY we would like to offer more fun and games on site on Wednesdays.

The Money Charity has organised FREE workshops in the church/ Dickinson Hall on Monday 21th September, 5th October and 12th October between 10.30 and 12. Limited number of places, please book your place and take a chance to improve your money management skills.

The Pantry users/beneficiaries/members and volunteers/ staff (if you are a member as well) can attend one or all three sessions. Booking is essential- please confirm the date of the workshop you would like to attend by sending email to [email protected] or calling 01202 733 580 (please leave you full name and contact number very clearly so we can call you back and confirm your place).
