STARS Dorset Our services include a Telephone Helpline, face to face counselling, and support and advocacy from our team of Independent Sexual Violence Advisors.

STARS is a pan-Dorset charity that offers 1:1 support, free of charge, for anyone of any age or gender who lives, works or studies in Dorset and has experienced any form of sexual violence at anytime in their life. Sexual Trauma and Recovery Services - Dorset R**e Crisis (STARS Dorset) is a charity that operates in Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole, offering practical and emotional support to the survivors of r**e, sexual violence, abuse or exploitation. The objective of the charity is to relieve the needs and distress of women, men, children and young people who have had traumatic sexual experiences, no matter when the incident occurred.

Sistah Space is a specialist charity that support women and families affected by domestic abuse whilst also ensuring that cultural factors are not only considered but understood.

They aim to ensure that cultural barriers and biases are removed and that their service users are given equal support from them and any other agency they go to for help.

Over the next few months we will be sharing other specialist support services available across Dorset and the UK.

From the 6th–13th October, every donation to STARS Dorset made through the Big Give Women & Girls Match Fund will be doubled — meaning your £10 becomes £20, and £50 becomes £100.

We’re aiming to raise £3,500 to help more survivors of sexual violence and abuse across Dorset access the specialist support they need.

What is Coercive Control?

Coercive control is a form of domestic abuse. It is an act, or a pattern of acts, of assault, threats, humiliation and intimidation that abusers use to harm, punish or frighten survivors.

This controlling behaviour is designed to make a person dependent by isolating them from support, exploiting them, depriving them of independence and regulating their everyday behaviour.

This can include:

- Isolation from friends and family
- Deprivation of basic needs, such as food
- Monitoring time
- Constantly being put down
- Humiliation, degrading or dehumanisation
- Controlling finances
