We’re recruiting!

We’re looking for a part-time Community Broker to join our team at Support Choices.

The role involves supporting people across Perth and Kinross with information and advice about Self-Directed Support and social care.

It’s up to 25 hours a week, with flexible working and a mix of home working, our Dunkeld office and locations across Perth and Kinross.

The Betty Ross Trust is looking to support people aged over 60 years old living in Perth & Kinross. The purpose is to provide financial assistance for people to buy equipment that will help them feel better supported to live at home longer.

- The person can make a self-referral to the fund or a professional can apply on their behalf.
- The maximum grant award is £5000 with the average award being around £3500.
- The funder is very strict that proof of purchase or an invoice is provided at some point during the application process.
- The award asked for can be a partial amount towards the total cost although information about how the rest of the cost is being funded would need to be provided.

PKAVS Carers Centre hosts these funds and work in close partnership with the Trustees to ensure the funds spent are appropriate to the aims of the Trust.

Technology can play an important role in helping people live safely,
independently and confidently in their own homes. Whether you're looking for support for yourself, a family member, or someone you work with, Technology Enabled Care (TEC) can offer practical solutions to everyday challenges.

The Perth and Kinross HSCP SmartFlat is a fully equipped demonstration space where you can explore a wide range of technology in a realistic home environment. Visitors can see equipment in action, learn how different technologies can support independent living, and speak with the TEC team about
what might work for their individual circumstances. The SmartFlat is open to individuals, carers, families, professionals and community groups, with visits available by appointment.

If you're unable to visit in person, why not take a virtual tour? The Virtual Smart House allows you to explore different rooms of a home online and discover how technology can support everyday living. From safety devices and reminders to tools that help people stay connected and maintain their independence, the interactive experience provides a simple way to learn more about the possibilities of Technology Enabled Care.

This resource aims to help you understand the role Allied Health Professionals play in the support of social care. New resources focus on Occupational Therapy, Art Therapy, and supporting people living with a Learning Disability.

Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) are the third largest clinical workforce in Scotland. NHS Tayside has been continuing their collaboration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), further developing AHP Learning Zones and Open Badges for a wide range of learners - including people interested in self-management; friends and family; unpaid carers; volunteers - aimed at supporting a preventative and early intervention approach.

October opportunities for unpaid carers ✨

A fully funded programme for disabled people and unpaid carers to become a Person Centred Planning Facilitator.

Online information sessions on Wednesday the 30th at 6pm and Thursday the 1st of October at 11am.

Person Centred Planning Academy 2027 - This is our final funded group of this course, so don't miss this chance to take part in our fully funded programme for Disabled people and unpaid Carers to become a Person Centred Planning Facilitator.

The sessions take place over three two-day
residential sessions in Stirling:

Tuesday, 25th and Wednesday, 26th January 2027·
Thursday, 25th and Friday, 26th February 2027·
Tuesday, 16th and Wednesday, 17th March 2027.
The residential sessions will run from 11:00 am until
7:00 pm on the first day then 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on the
second day. All travel and hotel costs are covered.

The Support in the Right Direction (SiRD) Year 2 Fund Report highlights the impact of independent support delivered between April 2025 and March 2026, sharing key learning and insights, and outlining how people have been supported to understand their rights, navigate complex systems, and access the care they need.

With expertise in Self-Directed Support legislation and a good knowledge of local resources, independent support organisations work with people at every stage of their social care journey. They take a person-centred approach and respond flexibly to individual circumstances, supporting all social care user groups and unpaid carers.

This support includes help to understand the social care system and self-directed support, help to prepare for and participate in social care assessments, and help to plan and manage support. Independent support plays an important part in the delivery of social care and without it, many social care users and carers would struggle to access the support they need and make use of it in the way they would like.
