Applications for a placement in the farming sector close on Friday. A driving licence isn't required but successful applicants need to be able to get to their placement location. More details in the website link below.

đźšś Thinking about a future in farming or the rural sector?

Our Land-based Pre‑apprenticeship Programme is the ideal first step — and applications close soon.

Over six months, you’ll gain hands‑on experience, industry training and a paid placement with a mentor business. Many of our young people say the programme has helped them grow in confidence, skills and direction.

As Zack, one of our recent pre‑apprentices, put it:
“It’s been a good 6‑months on the placement… my development has been clear to see. The pre‑apprenticeship programme is a good way to get into farming.”

If you’re aged 16–21 and ready to learn, this could be your start.

đź“… Apply by 27 March 2026

Please be aware the school may be closed on 19th and 25th March due to strike action but it's still to be confirmed. A letter was sent to all parents and carers today so please check your email account.

Schools in Perth and Kinross may be affected by proposed industrial action on Thursday 19 and Wednesday 25 March.

This involves members of the EIS union and is part of a national dispute relating to Reduction in Class Contact Time (RCCT) and the failure to agree on the nature and timescales of a reduction of teachers’ class contact time to a maximum of 21 hours per week.

Negotiations are continuing at a national level but it is important we prepare in case the proposed industrial action does go ahead. Industrial Action is being undertaken in all local authorities in Scotland on a rolling basis.

Due to the numbers of union members potentially involved in strike action, an assessment is required to determine what schools we can open safely during the strike days.

The situation in each school will be different which means some schools in Perth and Kinross may be able to open, or partially open, while others will have to close on the 19 and 25 March.

However, without resolution of this dispute ahead of these days it is highly likely that most schools will not be able to open fully.

We appreciate the uncertainty this will cause and your child`s school will keep you updated on an ongoing basis as we plan how best to deal with the effects of this industrial action.

The needs of children, young people and families will be at the centre of our planning.

Are you a parent or carer of a senior school pupil?
We’re working with NatureScot to find out what parents and carers of senior pupils think about a potential Foundation in Land and . By finding out what support there is and what barriers there might be, we can decide whether or not to go ahead with development of the programme and what form it will take.
Foundation Apprenticeships can last one or two years and are normally taken in S5 or S6. Young people spend time out of school at college or with a local employer on work-based learning, completing the programme alongside other subjects like National 5s and Highers.
The survey is being run by EKOS and should take around ten minutes to complete at https://online1.snapsurveys.com/Interview/4f436c51-8fe8-4f4a-bd3c-218d68c0927c Apprenticeships.scot DYW Scotland
