Something a bit different today. PKCT Conservation and Projects Officer Jen popped in to meet the team at the grand opening of Fair Feast in Pitlochry. The world's first social enterprise butcher shop, arising from the need to lower deer numbers on a nearby estate to begin biodiversity work such as peatland restoration and native woodland regeneration. The by-product is sold but much of it is donated to support local rural food banks. This not-for-profit enterprise benefits both people and wildlife plus supporting the rural skills industry by providing training and employment opportunities in the local area. Very innovative, but they do also sell their own farmed beef etc! To find out more drop in to chat with the friendly and informative team or visit their website: www.fairfeast.co.uk

PKCT Conservation and Projects Officer Jen met up with members of West Stormont Woodland Group (WSWG) and Munro from Alba Fiadach yesterday for a look at Taymount Wood near the villages of Stanley and Murthly. Discussion was around how to create a community space and improve the woodland for wildlife and people by linking to Five Mile Wood and West Stormont Wood. Suggestions include the creation of a food forest and education/community hub. Great ideas and lots of enthusiasm! If you think you could bring some ideas to the table then WSWG would love to hear from you. You can contact them on their website: https://www.weststormontwoodlandgroup.scot/

🍿Film night in Aberfeldy was fun! Before the main feature on Monday night, a premiere of the short film produced with support from PKCT and Climate Connect Perth and Kinross shown to enthusiastic cinema goers. The film about Rewilding Denmarkfield celebrates all of the great habitat and biodiversity creation and improvements through efforts of local residents and volunteers on land by the Destiny Bridge. PKCT Jen and Izzy of Rewilding Denmarkfield gave a short introduction and had great chats with viewers during the Climate Cafe pop-up beforehand. Big thanks to Patty the cinema manager for making the magic happen! Rewilding Denmarkfield are holding an Open Day event for the summer solstice....Sunday 21st June so go check their page out.....we hope to see you there!🌄

“Hi, we’re Freya and Kaitlin, volunteer and Youth Council member, and we’ve been volunteering at the Scottish Crannog Centre with PKCT!

We have tried out lots of different experiences at the centre today. My favourite (Freya) was the coloured weaving and my favourite (Kaitlin) was realising our elastic band ball was really bouncy!

We’ve seen so many lovely people, have learned a lot about Iron Age crafts and even got a VIP tour (and selfie) of the new Crannog.”

We had a brilliant time at Quarrymill Woodland Park this morning, for Perth Wildlife Watch's Foraging Walk! 🪷🌳

To start everyone off, we did some intros as we had six new members today! 🥳Then, Leader Sara showed everyone how to make candles out of beeswax, using the petals from dandelions for decoration. This was a real team effort, with each Leader on their own station - special thanks to Leader Jess who was in charge of the camping stove!

There was time for a quick game of Keeper of the Keys and a some snacks, and then we headed off for our foraging walk. Leader Claire helped to point out some interesting edible plants, and also warned us of the deadly ones!

We rounded off the morning with a game of 40/40 in the woods. 🌳🌳🏃‍♀️🏃‍➡️
