Post 2/2: In the afternoon, it was the turn of our older group, PKCT Youth Council, to meet up and enjoy some time outdoors. This time we met at Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park. 🌳🌳

Harry and Ross from Youth Council, joined Hugh Anderson from the Trustee team, and Catherine and Graham from the Staff team. Together we worked on an exciting new project, updated each other about our action points from the last meeting, and enjoyed a walk to one of the viewpoints.

We have spaces on our Youth Council team - if you know a young person aged 12-18, who lives in Perth and Kinross and loves the outdoors, please do get in touch with Catherine ([email protected]).

Post 1/2: Today was a bumper Saturday for our Discovery, Learning and Engagement work! First up, it was Perth Wildlife Watch for their stream dipping session at Quarrymill Woodland Park 💦🌊🌳

This is an annual feature of our Wildlife Watch programme and we always find lots of beasties - today was no exception! We had Mayfly nymphs of different sizes, Cased Caddisfly larvae, Freshwater Shrimp, and even a fish (which Wildlife Watcher Ben identified as a Minnow for us)! 🐟

The group had time to play a couple of outdoor games, including "Tadpoles" which involved some very stealthy tadpoles, and some hungry herons! 🏃‍♂️

As the dust settles on another awesome Cateran Yomp, we’d like to say a huge thank you 🙌🙌 once again to Andrew Housley, William Manning and Bob Ellis for their help with some last-minute repairs on the trail ahead of the event.

Andrew retrieved, re-welded and re-fitted the broken pedestrian gate on the boundary of the Dirnanean and Dalmunzie estates, and Bob and a member of the True Grit Events team worked with trail manager Andy to cut an over-hanging tree back from the Trail, making sure the Trail was safe for the 1000 Yompers this year as well as for our regular Trail users and the estates’ livestock.

A new defibrillator has been installed at the popular River Tay Way Hub on the outskirts of Aberfeldy.

The potentially life-saving equipment has been secured for the Hub thanks to the generous support of Perth and Kinross Council, Taymouth Castle and Algo.

Thanks also to Willie Black from Billy Black Electrical Ltd for fitting the defibrillator.

The sun shone this morning for our Wild Journey Session with Perth Outdoor Playgroup!

We had a fab time making our own binoculars, and then went to see what birds we could see - we spotted a pair of nesting blue t**s! Then we made some spring potions and finished off with a game of Follow the Animal Leader 🐎🐵🐊

Looking forward to our next session in a few weeks time 🙂

Good luck to everyone taking part in The Cateran Yomp this year!

We hope you all have a great event and get to enjoy one of Scotland’s Great Trails while raising funds for a very worthwhile cause!

Each year before the Cateran Yomp, our team works tirelessly strimming and cutting back vegetation to ensure that the Cateran Trail is in the best possible condition for Yompers!

If you see our very own Andy Barrie Cateran Trail co-founder Bob Ellis helping out over the weekend, give them a wave!

We are gearing up for what could be biggest Cateran Yomp ever! Really hoping for some spells of sunshine over the weekend for Yompers coming from all over the UK and further afield. Trail Manger Andy Barrie was on the route today in Glenshee, supported by his son Angus. Sadly someone or something has broken the gate on highest point of the Trail. We have sent a fencing contractor up there on a quad bike and fingers crossed he is going to re-weld the hinges and save the day.

If you know a young person aged 8-12 who might enjoy this, then grab the welly boots and join us. Perth Wildlife Watch is *free* but booking is essential to ensure consent forms are completed, and that numbers are known.

🥳It's Volunteers' Week, which means it's time to celebrate our wonderful YOUTH COUNCIL!🥳

We all love working with this friendly bunch, and whether it's helping to design our logos, or giving us ideas for our projects, they have contributed a huge amount to our work. They also help us at events, and volunteer their time to help practical conservation and habitat management tasks across Perth and Kinross.

Here are just some of the amazing stats for PKCT's Youth Council, in 2025 and 2026 so far. Well done team, and thank you! 👏👏

We've had a brilliant start to Volunteers Week, as another lovely group from Glenalmond College came out for their volunteering day at Kinnoull Hill! 🌳🌳💚

The keen pupils braved the weather forecast, and joined the PKC Rangers, and PKCT's Discovery Learning and Engagement Officer, for some practical conservation work. They worked hard to continue the gorse removal that previous classes have helped with. This will help to support the heathland restoration work that PKC Greenspace are focusing on in this area.

The group put in a lot of time and effort and made a big difference today. They are the last group from Glenalmond College that we'll see this academic year - so we'd like to take the chance to say a big "THANK YOU!" to all the groups, for their hard work and support 👏👏
