🎉Veteran Shetlands take top SSADL honours at Royal Windsor🎉

Two Shetland veterans shone at Royal Windsor this year in The Senior Showing & Dressage Ltd (SSADL) Ridden Championships, with Briar Snowman and Clothie Nightcap taking both the Ridden Championship and Reserve between them.

22yr old Briar Snowman, partnered by Penny Richardson, secured the Ridden SSADL Championship qualifying for the The 7one7 Engineering Ltd SSADL Ridden Championship at RIHS 2026. Snowman’s victory was particularly poignant for the Richardson family, who have owned him for nine years, having recently navigated a spell of serious health concerns with him, so seeing him back to full heath and back in the ring made the win extra special.

Taking the Reserve Champion title was 28yr old Clothie Nightcap, ridden by Queenie Follows. Nightcap represented the Royal Regiment of Scotland where he serves as the official companion to the regiment’s mascot, Corporal Cruachan IV (Clothie Nyggle), who himself claimed 4th out of 28 in the Pre-Senior class.

We are delighted to see two of our special seniors take such prestigious awards, well done to everyone.

After SPSBS Breed Show - Orkney 2026 Show Dinner

The Shetland Pony Breeders of Orkney would like to invite you to join them on Saturday night after the show, at the Pickaquoy Centre in Kirkwall.
Buffet dinner, music, bar and raffle - Adult tickets £30.00 each, Primary school & under free of charge - time is still to be confirmed but we will contact everyone with tickets in the run up to the show, to confirm.

⚠️ Biosecurity Reminder ⚠️

Due to the current outbreaks of Strangles and Equine Influenza within the equine community, we would like to remind all exhibitors to take extra care when attending shows and events with their ponies.

Please ensure good biosecurity practices are followed at all times, including:

• Avoiding unnecessary contact between ponies
• Not sharing water buckets, feed bowls, or equipment
• Washing/disinfecting hands and equipment regularly
• Monitoring ponies closely for any signs of illness
• Staying at home if your pony is unwell or has been in contact with infected horses

The health and welfare of all ponies attending our events is extremely important, and we appreciate everyone working together to help reduce the risk of disease spreading.

⭐️SPS-BS Driven Performance Awards Scheme⭐️

So far this year, we have held our Annual Lunch, which was, as always, a great day and very well supported by Shetland Pony enthusiasts from all over the country. We have also been on a fantastic trip to Twemlows Stud in Shropshire, organised by Doreen Tindale.

One of our members has very kindly offered to hold a drive (dates to be confirmed) – watch this space.

The next Annual Lunch is to be held on Sunday, 10 January 2027, at the Moat House, Acton Trussell, Stafford. We have organised an excellent speaker, and again, all are welcome to attend.

Looking forward to receiving entry forms for members wishing to take part in the points awards – and the Scheme is open to all who drive their own turnout, are considering starting to drive, have retired from driving, or just love Shetland ponies and would like to be part of our group.
