Visit one of Oxford's largest charity shops at 242 Barns Road, Cowley, Oxford, OX43RQ. Emmaus Oxford helps men and women move on from homelessness by providing safe accommodation for up to 28 companions at any one time. Our companions work full-time at our store, repairing, restoring and upcycling items, helping with deliveries and selling the donated items. This work supports our Emmaus community
financially and enables residents to develop skills, rebuild their self-respect and help others in greater need. Helping others is key to the ethos of Emmaus. Companions receive accommodation, food, clothing and a small weekly allowance, but for many, the greatest benefit is a fresh start. To join an Emmaus community, they sign off unemployment benefits and agree to participate in the life and work of the community to the best of their abilities. Emmaus is a secular movement, spanning 36 countries, with 29 communities in the UK. Each community aims to become self-sufficient, with any surplus donated to others in need.
