A tough result this bank holiday weekend as we lost to Beeston Albion FC 4-0.

Without many of our first teamers, including Luke Ashley Willetts, we were always in for a difficult match as we managed to (steve) cobble together a match day squad.

Stand-in manager Hume did as well as most of our managers have done, delivering a team talk focused largely on shinpads and wrist watches.

We also got to see feisty Smeele, a delight for the eyes, as well as the long-awaited debut for Meeks who was recovering from a 4am late night. Our 10am early start probably didn’t help!

Onto the next game Sunday, but a solid performances from the boys in tough circumstances!

Last night, the sun literally set on a chapter of Chillacticos history. 🌅⚽

For 12 years, Wednesday nights at Chilwell have been home. Pitch 3 in particular has been ours.

When the gaffer took over, the group was slowly unravelling. Numbers were dropping, and for a while we even found ourselves on Pitch 1, sometimes playing 4 a side just to keep things going.

But we fought back. Rebuilt. Grew. We got ourselves back to 7 a side.

Along the way, we launched Saturday mornings, which eventually came to a rather dreary and unorganised end 😂. The 11s team, two kits and what looks to be a record 25+ games this year. Then came Monday nights and what a success that turned out to be. That group has gone from strength to strength, expanding to 9 a side at Hickings Lane earlier this year.

And now, Wednesday joins Monday.

But while the pitch is changing, what Chillacticos has become is something far bigger than football.

When we started, we were just a group of lads playing football. Now, we’re a community.

We look out for each other. We’ve made friendships. We’ve supported people through good times and bad. We’ve raised money for charity and tried to make a genuine difference.

Over the years, more than 250 people have turned up for the Chillacticos, even before we had a name, people who found us through Facebook, Reddit, a mate, a mate of a mate, and yes… even Gumtree. 😂

Some stayed for years. Some only played once. But every single person has been part of the story.

So, to everyone who has ever played, served us for the post match pint at The Crown, organised, donated, supported, turned up on a freezing Wednesday night, scored a worldie, missed an absolute sitter, or simply helped keep this thing going:

Thank you. ❤️

Chilwell might no longer be our Wednesday home, but Chillacticos isn’t going anywhere.

12 years down.

The next chapter starts now. ⚽❤️

Another week, another loss, but more importantly, we saw the debut of our away kit! The lads looked superb in our fresh new gear, which is far more important than the performance on the pitch.

Speaking of the performance, a 5-1 loss to our friends at Ilkeston Charity FC probably doesn’t do a good display from us justice.

Our backs were against the wall from the get go when it transpired that Joe Paternoster was going to be the lone striker up top. Despite recently winning the MOTM for a stunning 9aside performance, he is still figuring out how to make it work in 11s, and our beloved Cobble was dearly missed.

That aside, some of our players really shone. Chris Lane made his debut on the left, a constant threat and menace throughout. ruined a cracking goal from outside the box by doing the Belling-goal celebration immediately after, the manchild. And special mention must go to , who proved that his dominance against the Ghost of Gresham wasn’t just a fluke - he is the real deal.

ALL ABOARD THE SMEELE TRAIN!

Thanks again to the Ilkeston boys for a great match, and onto the next one in a couple weeks.

On Sunday we had the much coveted Chillacticos vs Hicklacticos derby, and what a game it was!

After careful adding up by the admin, the end score was 9-6 to the Chillacticos.

There were many noteworthy moments. First off, the Taty Castellanos of Rasmus Højlands made his striker debut for the Chillacticos (me), and somehow it wasn’t a complete disaster. One missed penalty aside, the admin was happy with a goal and a few assists as the Chillacticos flew into an early comfortable lead.

The debut of Johnson on the wing was crucial, brought in at the last. Despite claiming his best days were behind him, the man delivered a hattrick and was actually quick, a rare thing for the Chillacticos.

Smeele was a unit at fullback shackling the Ghost of Gresham, Matt dictated the play and Jake was amazing here there and everywhere. The Chillacticos went into half time comfortably leading, and all hope seemed lost for the Hicklacticos.

Yet, donning our dashing new away kit, they embraced the second half comeback spirit that typifies the Chillacticos and grabbed a bunch of goals which made the game very close. Without an inspired performance from Mezz, things could’ve been much worse. Cobble remembered that he is a very good striker, Hume decided to turn up and Batty was unleashed up top.

Speaking of unleashed up top, though, a report of the game wouldn’t be complete without Willetts having his Ankara Messi moment. Thrown up at striker for the last few after a monster display at the back, he was absolutely awful for most of it, before something clicked. He discovered he had twinkle toes, dancing past the Hicklacticos defence, sending Jones for a sausage roll and burying it past Pete. You can’t stop greatness.

A couple of years ago we had no 11aside team at all. Now we have enough players to field an 11s v 11s game. It just shows how far we’ve come as a group, and a massive thank you to our sponsors CGI, Jigsaw and Midland Turbo for making this possible.

This Sunday, witness a world first as we witness the first ever inter-Chillacticos game, as the Chillacticos take on the Hicklacticos.

Come down to Gresham Sports Park at 2pm to catch us in action. Given we always concede at least 6 goals a game, this should be a classic!

Not our best performance against our friends at West Bridgford Shrimps FC, as we fell to them in a scoreline I don’t dare to quote!

Whilst we were without some of our star men, we can’t take anything away from a terrific Shrimps display.

It also happens to coincide with the return of the admin, with the score a total mirror of the result from the week before.

There were still positives to be taken. Cobble grabbed a second half goal (and proved he had friends outside of football!), we discovered that Holland can play in every single position, and Hume recovered admirably from a midweek injury despite one atrocious miss.

Still, good fun as always. Biggest gripe for the admin was the post-game pub - £4.70 for a pint of COKE!!

Onto Sunday’s game, the long awaited inter-Chillacticos match!
