A team of firefighters from across Nottinghamshire will be swapping their hoses for oars at this year's Dragon Boat Race 🚣🚒

Together they'll be raising money for the Children's Burns Unit at Nottingham Children's Hospital, after seeing firsthand the impact burn injuries can have on children and young people.

The team have dubbed themselves the Nozzle Ninjas and will be competing against other teams from local businesses and staff from Nottingham's hospitals at our annual event.

A. W. Lymn The Family Funeral Service is a familiar name across Nottinghamshire, having supported families from across the region to plan funerals for their loved ones.

But you may not know that they have also helped facilitate over £782,000 in donations to Nottingham Hospitals Charity over the past 20 years.

Through donations made at funerals, we've been able to enhance care and facilities in over 90 different areas across our hospitals - with a high proportion being donated to Hayward House and palliative care.

To mark Nottingham Hospitals Charity's 20th anniversary, and the huge amount of donations facilitated by A. W. Lymn, we welcomed Chairman Nigel Lymn Rose MBE and Director Jackie Lymn Rose to Hayward House, to see some of the improvements their support has enabled.

It's Volunteers' Week, and we want to say a heartfelt 'thank you' to our amazing volunteers who give up their time to support Nottingham Hospitals Charity.

Their kindness, dedication and generosity make a real difference every single day. Whether supporting at one of our events, greeting customers at our Charity Hub, or just being there to support visitors and patients, their impact is felt across our hospitals.

We couldn't do what we do without them.

When Alex Alder’s baby son Dylan was just seven weeks old, she trusted her instincts when something didn’t feel right. After becoming unusually sleepy, Dylan was rushed to Nottingham Children’s Hospital, where he was diagnosed with meningitis.

With only one parent allowed on the ward due to Covid restrictions, she spent a week by Dylan’s side — worried, exhausted, and overwhelmed.

Through it all, the kindness and compassion from staff at Nottingham Children's Hospital made a lasting impact - so much so that Alex now works at the hospital and is also fundraising to help families like hers.

Today Dylan is a happy, healthy five-year-old, and to say thank you for all the support they received during this scary time, Alex and her colleagues are taking on a 24-hour static cycle challenge at the Queen's Medical Centre.

The money raised will help support patients like Dylan and their families during difficult times.

For more than 11 years, Nottingham Children’s Hospital housekeeper Joy Weise has been going above and beyond to support families facing the unimaginable. 💙

Inspired by the families she meets through her work on the Paediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU), Joy has dedicated herself to fundraising for the Child Bereavement Team - raising an incredible £23,000 through community fundraising.

As the charity celebrates 20 years of impact across Nottingham’s NHS hospitals this year, Joy’s dedication highlights the lasting difference kindness can make for patients and families when they need it most.

With the UK enjoying another stretch of warm weather, it’s a good moment to share something brilliant that’s been making a real difference for older patients at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Last year, thanks to £4,800 of funding, we were able to install six mini freezers on wards to store something pretty special – N-ICE Cream® 🍦

Developed right here in Nottingham by Professor Opinder Sahota and the clinical team at NUH, this award-winning ice cream isn’t just a treat – it’s packed with protein and key nutrients to help tackle malnutrition in older patients.

It’s been designed for people who struggle with traditional hospital meals or find standard nutritional drinks unappealing, giving them something cooling, tasty, and genuinely beneficial.

Flavours include vanilla, strawberry, salted caramel and mint and with hot weather like we’re seeing now, making sure patients stay nourished is even more important.

We’re proud that this idea, developed locally, is now being used in everyday care – helping some of our most vulnerable patients get the nutrition they need in a way that works for them.

If you’d like to support more projects like this, your donations really do go a long way!

Thanks to your generous donations, we’ve helped transform the Endoscopy discharge area into a brighter, more welcoming space for patients, visitors and staff 💙

Working alongside the Shared Governance team at Nottingham hospitals and talented artist Lynne Hollingsworth, this new nature-inspired artwork has been made possible through Arts at NUH - Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust’s award-winning arts programme, proudly funded by Nottingham Hospitals Charity.

Launched in September 2021, the programme is entirely supported through charitable donations and helps create more positive environments for patients, visitors and staff by bringing creativity and wellbeing into hospital spaces 🎨

Lynne has previously created murals for Stoma and Outpatients, with her work admired by the many patients and visitors who pass through our hospitals every day.
