There is no right or wrong way to experience grief.

Some people find support through friends, family or their usual routines. Others may feel they need to talk to someone outside the situation.

Our free Counselling and Emotional Support offers one-to-one support in person, online or over the telephone, as well as peer-support groups.

We may be able to help you if:

💜 You’ve been affected by incurable illness, whether as a patient, carer or family member.
💜 You're grieving following the death of someone with an incurable illness.
💜 You're grieving following the sudden or unexpected death of someone.

You don’t need to be referred by a healthcare professional. Adults who meet the eligibility criteria can contact us directly and arrange an initial conversation with the team.

Care doesn’t pause for a Bank Holiday.

While many people will be enjoying a long weekend, colleagues across Nottinghamshire Hospice will continue supporting patients and families in their homes.

They will be travelling across our communities, providing practical care, managing symptoms, offering reassurance and helping families through some of their most difficult moments.

To everyone providing care and support this Bank Holiday weekend: thank you for being there when people need you. 💜

A massive thank you to our incredible partners at Vaughandale Construction

We are absolutely blown away by the success of their recent charity golf day, which raised a phenomenal £5,073 in support of Nottinghamshire Hospice and John Eastwood Hospice.

This funding is enough to provide a full week of overnight hospice care. That means providing respite for family members and caregivers, giving them peace of mind knowing their loved ones are receiving expert, compassionate care through the night.

Vaughandale are truly outstanding partners, and we are so grateful for their unwavering dedication to supporting local hospice care throughout this year.

We can't wait to see what they have in store next!

Our peer support groups are a caring space for those grieving a loved one - to connect, share, and be supported. Staff and volunteers will also be on hand to support you.

Grief doesn’t follow a set path.

You may have come across the idea of the ‘stages of grief’, but these stages aren’t a checklist to work through, and reaching ‘acceptance’ doesn’t mean grief is over.

In the latest article in our "Let’s Talk Grief" series, Jenni Tompkins, Bereavement Service Lead at Nottinghamshire Hospice, explores the stages of grief theory, what each stage can feel like, and why it can be more helpful to think of them as common experiences rather than a fixed route through grief.

Brian and Liz shared more than 60 years together – raising two children, welcoming five grandchildren and travelling to more than 40 countries.

“We were just good pals,” Brian says. They enjoyed playing cards and, most importantly, simply being together.

When Liz became seriously ill, following a terminal cancer diagnosis, home became even more important. Her bed was placed in the living room overlooking the garden, where she could remain part of everyday family life.

Our Hospice in Your Home team provided overnight care, allowing Brian to rest and helping Liz remain surrounded by the people and things she loved.

💜 Being at home at the end of life can mean having your dog beside you, a favourite record playing and the people you love close by.

A new feature from LeftLion takes a thoughtful look at what Nottinghamshire Hospice care really means to local people – and the community support needed to keep it going.

Writer Frances Danylec spoke to members of our team about the lighter moments as well as the difficult ones, the misconception that hospice care has to be paid for, and how our nurses make care personal to each individual.

The article also shares David’s moving account of the care his wife, Charlotte, received at home. He describes our nurses as a lifeline and says their support made an “immeasurable difference” to them both.

With less than half of our funding coming from the NHS, the feature explores why fundraising and local support are so important in keeping our care free for people across Nottinghamshire.
