What a fantastic day for TS Laforey!

Yesterday 10 of our cadets took part in the Eastern Area Sailing and Windsurfing Competition at Thrapston boat station. The conditions were challenging with some changeable wind conditions, rain and strong gusts.
Below are the results:

Gold medal 6.8m Windsurfing - Leading Cadet Baucutt
Silver medal 5.8m Windsurfing - Leading Cadet Caple
Silver medal 4.8m Windsurfing - Cadet Rusu
Silver medal Junior Topper - Cadet Meakins
Silver medal Open Pico - Able Cadet Haddock
Bronze medals Junior Quest - Ordinary Cadet Baucutt and Cadet First Class Payne

Well done to Petty Officer Cadet Austin in the Open Zest and Able Cadet Bilimoria and Petty Officer Cadet Varnsverry in the Open Quest who just missed the medals.

They are amazing results and good luck to those who are heading off to Nationals in September.

June divisions was an evening of ideas and fun. After a smart ceremonial routine, the cadets had their uniforms inspected. The winner of the overall smartest cadet this month was Able Junior Cadet Paterau, well done to all the cadets nominated.

During the second half of the evening the cadets enjoyed some team games around communication and Petty Officer Cadet Austen ran a fantastic cadet voice session to get some ideas ready for the National Cadet Conference. The Divisional Shield winners this month were Raleigh Division.

At evening colours we celebrated a number of boatwork qualifications achieved at the District Boating week and Area Boating Weekend. We also presented Junior awards, offshore qualifications, BTEC Level 1 certificates and Duke of Edinburgh Sectional certificates.

Well done to everyone for a fantastic evening😊

On Monday 18th May it was the annual Mayor Making Ceremony, organised by Northampton Town Council, which took place at the Guildhall.

It was a wonderful evening of Civic tradition and celebration. The evening also celebrates the changeover of our Mayor’s Cadet. Petty Officer Cadet Austin has had a fantastic year supporting Cllr Jane Birch and has been an amazing ambassador for our organisation.

Corporal Knight has been appointed as the next Mayors Cadet of Northampton and was looking forward to supporting Cllr Mike Hallam in his year in office.

On the 29th May Corporal Knight attended his first event supporting the Mayor at Oak Apple Day.

The annual thanksgiving ceremony commemorates King Charles II’s support following the Great Fire of Northampton in 1675.

Today 28 cadets took part in the West District Rowing Competition at Thrapston Boat Station. The cadets demonstrated amazing teamwork and were a real credit to the unit.

Our Open boys, Open girls, Junior boys and Junior girls all came away as winners against some tough competition. Our Junior sea cadets had a great day on the water and as a new team did fantastically well.

A big well done to all the cadets from across West District who raced today. The teamwork shown and the sportsmanship from all was fantastic. A massive thank you to all the volunteers who made the day possible!

The Sea Cadets National Awards were announced this afternoon and I am delighted to share the news that we have been named the recipients of the “Thomas Gray Memorial Trophy” which is awarded to the second best unit in the UK, for the second year running.

To maintain this high standard as a unit year on year is a fantastic achievement and one in which we’re extremely proud of.

Congratulations to everyone who is involved at TS Laforey. We have had another fantastic year but this is down to the hard work and dedication of the whole team.

I’m so proud to be your Commanding Officer, thank you all!!!

This weekend saw 12 of our cadets complete their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Rowing Expedition. They worked well in their teams navigating the River Nene in some lovely weather conditions yesterday and some windier conditions today.

Well done to them all ☺️

Last night we were honoured to have Eastern Area Officer, Commander Charlie Bagot-Jewitt DL RN, HM Lord Lieutenant of Northamptonshire, James Saunders Watson and the Mayor of Northampton, Cllr Jane Birch onboard for our Royal Naval Parade.

It was an important evening for the unit as it was our bi-annual inspection by the Area Officer. We welcomed parents and supporters to come enjoy the evening and the cadets showcased the skills they’ve gained while being a member of TS Laforey.

After the ceremonial routine, which was smart and well conducted, the cadets put on a number of interactive classes and challenges for our distinguished guests and parents.

During evening colours we had a number of presentations which included the enrolment ceremony for 4 new cadets, Junior badges including 3 Commodores Broad Pennants, Junior and sea cadet promotions, First Aid at Work, offshore award and a BTEC Level 2 Certificate. The Mayor also made the appointment of the next Mayors Cadet of Northampton to Cadet Corporal Knight.

Our thanks goes to the Area Officer, HM Lord Lieutenant and the Mayor of Northampton for inspecting the cadets, getting involved in the activities and awarding the presentations to the cadets

A big well done to all the cadets who did TS Laforey very proud.
