Northampton Sea Cadets

September divisions the majority of the ships company were back from their summer holidays and it was great evening of fun. After a smart ceremonial routine, the cadets had their uniforms inspected. The winner of the overall smartest cadet this month was Able Cadet Bilimoria, well done to all the cadets nominated.

Before the cadets went into the Divisional Games our Silver Duke of Edinburgh expedition team did their presentation to the ships company. They talked about their experiences, their project work, showed lots of photos and encouraged others to join the DofE award. Then the cadets enjoyed some puzzles which they had to solve as a team. The Divisional Shield winners this month were the Royal Marines Cadet Detachment.

We were delighted to have the Area Chaplain onboard who chose our smartest cadet this month and presented lots of awards and qualifications at evening colours. We celebrated lots of boatwork qualifications that have been achieved over the summer, good conduct awards, and some promotions. We also presented Marine Cadet Bright with his pass out booklet for his Basic and Intermediate Physical Training course achieved on the National Physical Training Course and a Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award for Able Cadet Haddock.

Our Mayors Cadet, Cadet Sergeant Knight, is running The Amazing Northampton half marathon run in support of the Mayors Charity, The McCarthy Dixon Foundation.

Northampton Royal Marines Cadets are recruiting!

Have you wondered what it’s like to be a Royal Marine Cadet?

Part of the Sea Cadets family, the Royal Marines Cadets enjoy all the exciting activities on and off the water that Sea Cadets do, as well as fieldcraft training, adventure training and much more.

Open to ages 13 to 17 years. Our Royal Marines Cadets meet every Wednesday and Friday evening and we currently have space to enrol new cadets into our detachment.

Our cadets have spent the summer holidays making the most of the Sea Cadet Experience. They have enjoyed summer camps up and down the country, gaining qualifications and making new friends.

We started the summer with a couple of our cadet sailing and windsurfing instructors supporting North Wales District Boating at Thrapston.

The following week 4 cadets and 3 volunteers joined Eastern Area Summer camp at HMS Raleigh in Plymouth for a weeks camp. The cadets completed courses in advanced marine engineering, intermediate catering, rowing and sailing.

During the same week Marine Cadet Bright attended the National Physical training course held in Portsmouth. Marine Cadet Bright enjoyed an action packed week of activities and came away with his Basic and Intermediate Physical Training Qualifications.

Then it was the turn of the Royal Marines Cadets who attended the X-Ray Company Royal Marine Summer camp. They enjoyed a great week training out in the field and also celebrating 50 years of X-Ray Company.

Thrapston Boat Station hosted a National Windsurfing Week in the middle of August. We had cadets complete their RYA Stage 1 Windsurfing. Petty Officer Gibb, Leading Cadet Caple and Leading Cadet Baucutt also supported the week as Instructors.

We have also had cadets away on weekend courses at Thrapston Boat Station achieving Sailing and Power Safety boat qualifications, including Leading Cadet Whitehead who has completed their Rowing Instructors qualification.

To finish off August we have had cadets offshore on TS Royalist with Ordinary Cadet Waloch enjoying the trip from Belfast to Falmouth and Cadet 1st Class Stefan joining the Tall Ship today in Falmouth for the week along the south-west coast.

August catch up!

August divisions was a quieter evening due to the summer holidays but the cadets still had an evening of team games and fun. After a smart ceremonial routine, the cadets had their uniforms inspected. The winner of the overall smartest cadet this month was Corporal Patrascu, well done to all the cadets nominated.

During the second half of the evening the cadets enjoyed some team games. The Divisional Shield winners this month were Tenacious Division.

We celebrated some boatwork qualifications and good conduct awards. Evening colours was an important evening for 2 of our cadets as they made their sea cadet promise and became full members of the ships company, welcome to TS Laforey.

During July ex Petty Officer Cadet Emily Horne completed her basic training for the Royal Navy at HMS Raleigh.

This is a fantastic achievement, good luck with phase 2 training.

This weekend saw 5 of our cadets complete their Silver Duke of Edinburgh expedition. The cadets have worked incredibly hard in preparation for their 3 days walking expedition in the past few months. This paid off with them being able to confidently navigate, make hearty meals, learn about the wildlife around Northamptonshire and set up a homely camp. Well done for a successful expedition 🏕️🙂.

We had a fantastic day at the Area Combined Regatta which was held at Nottingham Unit yesterday. All our teams worked hard all day with some great results.

Open boys - Winners of the Gold medals 🥇
Junior girls - Silver medals 🥈
Open Male Yole - Petty Officer Cadet Austen- Silver medal 🥈
Open girls - 3rd place 🥉
Powerboat Handling - 3rd place 🥉
Junior boys - 4th place

The cadets showed true sportsmanship yesterday and were a great credit to the unit and West District Sea Cadets.
