'A FARMER TURNED PARSON’ – FREE DOWNLOAD
John Mastin, was vicar of Naseby from 1783 to 1829. As well as writing the first history of the parish of Naseby, his memoirs tell us much about local people and events in his lifetime.
Edited by Christine Vialls and Kay Collins, these works are included in a free e-book published by the Record Society. It has much to offer readers resident in the area and the descendants of people who used to be - as well as anyone just curious about what life was like over 200 years ago.

661 LOCAL CHURCHES AND CHAPELS IN 1851
1851 was the only year when a census collected information about almost all the places of worship in England and Wales. Northamptonshire’s returns, with details such as how many attended each service held on 30 March of that year, are now published as a free e-book.

ROTHWELL FAIR – RUNNING SINCE 1204
One of the oldest Charter Fairs in England, Rothwell Fair has got off to a good start this year.
Today is Proclamation Monday, when the Bailiff to the Lord of the Manor read the ancient Charter at nine key places in the town. Thank you to Andrew Presland for the pictures.
During its long history, the Fair’s impact has reached beyond Rothwell itself. For instance, when the census was taken on 6 June 1841, the 898 people counted at Naseby included ’48 persons attending the annual feast’. This was presumably connected with the Rothwell Fair.
You can find out more about the Fair (which lasts for a week) at: https://rowellfair.co.uk/the-rowell-fair-society/
