See our recent story which is an article created by to raise awareness about brain injuries and how to provide support to those affected.

Every March, people around the world observe Brain Injury Awareness Month.

It highlights the realities of life after a brain injury, including the physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges faced by survivors. Whether caused by an accident, fall or other medical events, brain injury can have lasting effects that aren’t always visible. This month also focuses on educating the public about prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment. It aims to reduce stigma too, promoting understanding and hope.

Our biggest supporter and friend of After Matters, Bernie Burke is taking on her next challenge for 3 charitable causes that are close to her heart and we’re so proud and delighted that After Matters is one of her chosen charities!

Bernie knows only too well the daily challenges our young people living with brain injury face as she is a survivor herself and she has self funded this trip to raise as much money as she can for her chosen charities as she treks across the Sahara Desert over a 6 day long challenge!

In Bernie’s own words we would appreciate any donation amount “even if it’s just the price of a cup of tea” as we know it all adds up to enabling us to help as many young people as we can.

Please share where you can to help and click on the link below to hear about Bernie’s story and to make your donation. Any amount donated is greatly appreciated. 😊

We’re proud to have recently donated baking equipment and items to the Floyd Unit in Rochdale 🧁

These resources will support patients through rehabilitation and recovery, helping them build confidence and practical skills through baking.

At After Matters, we believe meaningful activities can make a real difference for young people living with acquired brain injury and our donation was made possible by the fundraising efforts and generosity of the local Rochdale community—thank you for your continued support.

What an absolutely brilliant booklet this is!

“The creative brain: poems by brain injury survivors”, written and edited by members of the community is a raw, powerful and enlightening reminder of how words can connect people in their recovery and realisation of their journey and new life.

With a beautiful, dazzling painting on the front cover by Claire Laffoley, this extraordinary zine contains incredible powerful poems by (one of our very own trustees), Ryan Hepton, Sebastian and Afsana Elanko and the amazing Lorna Collins herself who has put this zine together and got it published.

We are proud to say that took part in one of these poems too at a recent event we attended with Lorna in Manchester.

If you would like to win a copy of this beautiful zine. Please message with your name and postal address and you could be a lucky winner to get this sent to you for free!
