WAST Manchester

WAST Manchester WAST Manchester aims to raise awareness about the issues that force women to seek international protection and aims to empower women asylum seekers.

We are a network of over 150 women that live in Greater Manchester and are experiencing the UK's hostile asylum system. Together, we share our experiences, empower and support one another. We fight for our rights and raise awareness of the issues that force women to seek international protection and the effects of the injustices within the UK immigration system. WAST is a safe space where we can b

e ourselves. Our vision
A society where compassion, respect, inclusion and empowerment enables women to reach their potential and have a voice within an increasingly hostile environment. Our mission
WAST Manchester is a grassroots organisation led by and for women seeking asylum in Greater Manchester. We campaign for social justice and women's rights through a peer-led support model that helps women find their place in the UK. Our values

Compassion - we empathise

Respect - we listen and believe

Inclusion - we welcome

Empowerment - we raise women's voices

Our network

Our network of over 150 women speak many languages and practise many religions. We are women of all ages, nationalities, ethnicities, sexual orientation and disabilities. We speak many languages,
Some of us have children and spouses or partners with us, others face our families being split up by deportation and many of us are alone. As women seeking asylum we can often feel vulnerable due to isolation, trauma, ill health, facing destitution, homelessness, or deportation. Get in touch if you want to join our network of amazing women!

Did you know, this week is Mental Health Awareness Week.

For the women in our network, seeking asylum can take a huge toll on their mental health. Far from home, navigating a hostile asylum system and without any normal semblance of life – many of our women experience loneliness, extreme stress and anxiety, and feelings of hopelessness.

But together, we can make a difference.

This , why not make it your ACTION to stand in solidarity with women asylum seekers?

ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE:

🧡 Make a donation 🧡
Support our activities and help women asylum seekers find community, support and wellbeing.

🧡 Share our stories 🧡
Share our posts with your community to help raise awareness.

🧡 Stand in solidarity 🧡
Use your voice to advocate for change or share words of solidarity and support.

🗓️ Coming up in May!

We have a busy month all round, with Friday drop-in, sewing and choir 🧡 Not to mention yoga and dance with the brilliant Afrocats, and a legal advice session with Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit.

We've also recently added dedicated 1-2-1 wellbeing sessions, to support our women to feel more calm, resilient and in control when facing challenging circumstances. If you're a WAST woman, get in touch to book a session.

And members, don't forget! We're closed for half term at the end of the month.

The women of WAST want to say a HUGE thank you to Rachel who raised over £1000 for WAST in the London Marathon last month. What a SUPERSTAR! 🥇

It means such a lot to know that people care and want to see dignity for all women seeking asylum. We appreciate you Rachel! Together in solidarity, always 🧡

And if Rachel has inspired you to run your own fundraiser for WAST, get in touch – we'd love to hear from you.

To give you an idea what it's like, we asked our existing Trustees why they love being part of the Board and why the work we do together matters so much.

Seeking asylum can be a frightening and isolating experience. That’s why community is so important to us. Every month, we run a variety of sessions bringing women together to connect, learn new skills and restore a sense of wellbeing.

But we can't do it without you!

WAST exists thanks to our kind sponsors, fundraisers and our community of incredible donors. Every penny we receive goes into providing support and wellbeing activities to women seeking asylum.

If you'd like to support the women of WAST, find out how on our website: wastmanchester.com
