The 1st to the 7th of November is Befriending Week – an important week which celebrates the positive impact that befriending has on individuals, and the communities those individuals live within.

At Age UK Maidstone, Sevenoaks and Tonbridge, we are hugely grateful to the dedicated and passionate volunteer befrienders who support this service across Sevenoaks and Tonbridge, and to the ILS workers who support clients with befriending across our areas of operation.

We were delighted to recently join Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council for their Community Award Scheme 2026 celebration! We were nominated for an award in recognition of our work, and were proud to win an award on the night!

This fantastic achievement is a reflection of the dedication our staff and volunteers show every week – supporting our clients with care and compassion.

We’re hugely grateful to all of the people involved in making a difference to the lives of the people we support. This award is a testament to your hard work, and is recognition of the impact your hard work has on our communities. Thank you for all you do!

Don't forget, the clocks go back one hour at 2:00 AM on Sunday 25th October 2026.

Here’s a quick checklist to help things go smoothly:

Reset clocks - wall clocks, bedside clocks, oven, microwave.

Check devices - phones and tablets should update themselves.

Double check medication timings - make sure the new clock time lines up with your usual schedule.

Keep mealtimes consistent - regular routines will help you feel settled, particularly if you have any memory issues.

Support sleep - morning daylight helps to reset the body clock.

We recently had an opportunity to head to the Radio FAW All studio at Maidstone Community Support Centre to record an advert for our Meals on Wheels service - a service delivery hot, two-course meals across the Maidstone area.

Thanks to Paul for taking the time to record the advert with us. It was fascinating hearing more about how the radio station supports Five Acre Wood School students, and we look forward to exploring opportunities for inter-generational projects in the future!

We’re bringing a regular supper club to Tonbridge - and you’re invited!

We know the rising cost of living is having a huge impact on the lives of older people living in our area. As we look ahead to the winter months, many may find themselves once again considering whether heating or eating are a priority - and that isn’t fair.

It’s why we’re introducing The Friendly Fork - a free, weekly supper club where people aged 55+ can make friends, learn new recipes, and explore ways to budget for affordable and nutritional meals.

To find out more about this brand-new service, visit: https://www.ageuk.org.uk/maidstone-sevenoaks-tonbridge/our-services/the-friendly-fork-(lunch-club-in-tonbridge)-53eaa1c9-e9a6-f111-85ce-000d3aaad8f7/

Ada Lovelace Day celebrates the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. It serves as a great reminder that women have been shaping STEM for generations.

Today we’re spotlighting four incredible women whose work changed the world:

Margaret Hamilton, who led the team behind NASA’s Apollo flight software, helping humans land on the Moon.

Dame Stephanie Shirley, who founded one of the UK’s first women‑led software companies in the 1960s.

Dr Gladys West whose mathematical modelling laid the foundations for GPS.

Professor Dame Sarah Gilbert who led the development of the Oxford AstraZeneca Covid‑19 vaccine.

Their achievements show that innovation and discovery span all ages and that women have always played a vital role in shaping the science and technology that we rely on today.

Image description: A collection of carousel images. The first title image introduces Ada Lovelace Day with the caption: celebrating the achievements of women in STEM. Each carousel has an image of the four women and their background, as highlighted in the post caption itself.
