There are just two weeks to go until Maidstone’s Monster Mash takes over the town centre.⁠

Expect giant creatures, surreal sights and plenty of brilliant photo opportunities as the creations of Filthy Luker & Pedro Estrellas, founders of Designs in Air, arrive in Maidstone.⁠

But don’t spend the whole time looking up. There’ll be smaller monster surprises to spot around the town too...⁠

One final weekend of stories, surprises and brilliant authors at Maidstone LitFest!📚️

The festival wraps up this weekend with a fantastic mix of family storytelling, bestselling authors, fascinating talks and creative workshops.

Saturday 10th October brings children's storytelling with Katie Ford and K D Greaves, conversations with Matt Cain and Elvin James Mensah, a hilarious look at maps gone wrong with the Map Men, and an evening of suspense with Adele Parks and Louise Candlish.

Sunday 11th October rounds things off with a thriller writing masterclass from Holly Seddon, a poetry workshop with Christopher Horton, Jess Kidd discussing Little Spark, and a suitably spooky finale with The Witching Hour, featuring Jess Kidd, Michelle Paver and Bridget Collins.

Whether you're an avid reader, an aspiring writer or just fancy something a little different this weekend, there's still time to get involved.

From historical fiction and crime thrillers to festive reads and comic books, there’s something for every kind of book lover.

📖 Today (Thursday 8th October):
- Amanda Harvey Purse explores the fascinating story of Jacquetta at Maidstone Museum.
- Vaseem Khan discusses his James Bond-inspired Q novels at Waterstones.
- Bestselling author Clare Chambers joins Nicola Everett in conversation at Maidstone Museum.

📚️ Tomorrow (Friday 9th October):
- Milly Johnson celebrates her new festive novel Let the Bells Ring Out at Maidstone Town Hall.

Something monstrous is coming to Maidstone this October half term! From 25th to 31st October 2026, Maidstone⁠ Town Centre will be taken over as Maidstone’s Monster Mash arrives for the week.⁠
⁠
Follow the trail around town and discover giant monster installations, colourful monster vinyls featuring designs⁠ from our community competition, and some hidden monsters waiting to be found along the way. Plus, the⁠ monster fun doesn’t stop there! Businesses across the town centre will be joining in throughout the week with⁠ monster-themed activities, treats, offers and more.⁠

Head to Creative Maidstone on Gabriel’s Hill to see a gallery of Monster Mash competition designs and meet⁠ even more monsters created by our community.⁠

⁠Strike a pose with the monsters! Keep your camera ready for our Monster Mash photo competition and your⁠ chance to win a prize.⁠
⁠

👀 The monsters are coming to Maidstone… and we can finally introduce their mascot!⁠

Meet Kevin the Ice Cream Monster, designed by seven-year-old Mya Edwards and crowned the winner of our Monster Mascot competition! Kevin will now become the official mascot of Maidstone’s Monster Mash!⁠
⁠
From 25th–31st October, larger-than-life inflatable monsters will take over Maidstone Town Centre. Follow the free trail to find them, discover more monster-themed surprises around town and look out for artwork created by some of our brilliant competition entrants.⁠
⁠
Every original Monster Mascot entry will also be on display at the Creative Maidstone Community Arts Hub during half term.⁠
⁠
