From 6th–11th October, Bee Brave will be one of seven refugee-owned food businesses trading at Borough Market as part of its week-long collaboration with TERN, bringing pure Ukrainian honey to the heart of London.

Bee Brave imports natural honey directly from Ukrainian apiaries, working with beekeepers who continue to produce and care for their bees despite the challenges created by the war.

The business was founded by Alex Pervak, Kateryna Luchina and beekeeper Volodymyr Matiushenko, and is also part of the TERN community.

One of the recommendations from the Cedar Review looks at opening up markets and supply chains to refugee entrepreneurs, because starting a business is only part of the journey. Businesses also need opportunities to reach customers, build their profile and grow. This is such a great example of what that can look like in practice.

If you’re in London next week, this is definitely worth a visit!

From 6th–11th October, TERN - The Entrepreneurial Refugee Network is taking over a pop-up space at Borough Market, showcasing seven refugee-led food businesses.

Visitors will be able to discover everything from Ukrainian honey and Syrian kunafa to Palestinian-inspired granola, speciality teas, juices and spice blends.

One of the recommendations from the Cedar Review is about opening up more markets and supply chains to refugee entrepreneurs, helping businesses reach new customers and access new opportunities so it’s brilliant to see that happening in practice at one of London’s best-known food markets.

It was great to attend the Entrepreneurship for Impact event, made possible by Acumen Academy, and catch up with Fred from TERN - The Entrepreneurial Refugee Network.

Even better to see the Cedar Review final report in the room!

The report represents more than nine months of research, with refugee entrepreneurs and the wider business support community helping us understand the barriers people face, but also the huge opportunity refugee entrepreneurship represents for the UK.

TERN have been a really important part of that journey, and we’re excited about what we can do together next.

With the report and its eight recommendations now published, the next phase is about turning that research into action and helping more refugee entrepreneurs to start, build and grow their businesses.

🍦 We love seeing collaborations like this!

Ben & Jerry’s has launched Love Nut Hate, a brand new flavour developed with six refugee entrepreneurs through TERN - The Entrepreneurial Refugee Network.

And this was a real collaboration. The entrepreneurs were involved in experimenting with flavours and developing the concept, name and story behind the finished product.

It’s also especially lovely for us to see Anil Qasemi, co-chair of the Cedar Review, involved too!

One of the Cedar Review recommendations looks at how we can open up more markets and supply chains to refugee entrepreneurs, creating opportunities for businesses to benefit from their skills, experience and ideas.

This feels like a great example of that in action.

Love Nut Hate has launched through Co-op this month, with a wider rollout coming in October.

It was lovely to hear from Yeukai Taruvinga, founder of Active Horizons at the launch of the Cedar Review Report.

Here Yeukai speaks a bit about the day and the things she would like to see for refugee entrepreneurs - acknowledgement and recognition and a seat at the table with other entrepreneurs.

Alongside the Report launch, The Cedar Review Book: Letters From a Place, was also released, sharing letters by entrepreneurs, for entrepreneurs.

This book is a collection of open letters written by refugee entrepreneurs to those who are just arriving in the UK, starting out in business, or wondering if entrepreneurship could be part of their future.

While the Cedar Review report focuses on data and systemic recommendations, this book uses personal storytelling to share practical wisdom and lived experience directly between founders.

It was incredible to hear from Co-Chair of the Cedar Review, Anil Qasemi, at last weeks Cedar Review report launch.

On the day, Anil gave a speech where he shared is story and spoke about the work that has been put into this report over the past few months.

Here he speaks a bit about his own business Hatopia and how this has grown, along with some recommendations and findings from the report.
