Jo received a surprise visit and bunch of flowers today from Verral who she mentored and encouraged to become a cycle trainer. After becoming part of the cycling community Verral grew in confidence and has now become an unstoppable force for good in the community helping victims of domestic violence and homelessness. Click on his video link to see just what he had to say to Jo and what she said back.

Someone who is very happy that Pedal Power has restarted for 2026 is 11-year-old Zuriel - pictured here with one of his carers. He’s always joined by his mum Maureen, and often his siblings.

Maureen tells us in her own words what coming into Pedal Power has meant for them:
“I love it here. I bring my lovely son Zuri and he has got too much energy. He loves jumping and exercising and without this he can get aggressive. Coming here has really been great for us as a family.

We started coming over two years ago. In the beginning he was scared of bicycles. He would just sit on the ground. Then he would do one lap, but not continue. We kept coming. With time he was doing great. Now he can ride many times around the track and he can ride on his own. When we get home he is happy because he accomplished something he wanted to do. When you tell him ‘let’s go bike-riding’ he is happy and excited.

For me it has really helped a lot because when Zuri does not sleep I would not sleep. Since we started coming bike-riding, Zuri sleeps throughout the night and I have opportunity to sleep and rest too.

At Pedal Power we make friends, we talk, we encourage each other - it is lovely and really fun.”

Sessions may be paused for our winter break but things are still going on behind the scenes. We are super pleased to now have a proper shelter for our bikes at the Emirates. Until now we've been stretching pieces of tarpaulin over our fleet to keep the weather off - now they have a proper home. Many thanks to the Ed & Romy Mc Beath, the parents of one of our members, for sponsoring and making it happen.

Congratulations to our amazing volunteer, Andrew who is right now giving a workshop at the V&A on his intuitive art process.
One of Andrew’s imaginative sculptures is also on display at the Museum of Homelessness in Finsbury Park. This is in support of the festive dog show being held on 6 December 1-4pm.

29-year-old Calum hasn’t been to any activities for seven years. He has been at home with his mum Joanne, because his speech, hearing and memory have deteriorated following a series of infections and an unobserved suspected seizure which was later confirmed as a Tonic Colonic seizure, Calum now has a diagnosis of epilepsy in addition to autism and Learning Disability. But his first visit to Pedal Power on Saturday was an absolute triumph.

Joanne said “This is the first activity that my son Calum has been to for years and I was very anxious about coming to Pedal Power because of his speech difficulties. It couldn’t have gone any better.

We have had an amazing time. Calum has tried three different cycles, it is a very safe and friendly environment. I even had a ride around the track a few times, and I haven’t cycled in years. I have found it really difficult to find activities where the parent can stay and watch.

I‘m so happy we came along to try, as Calum has had a great time and it’s good exercise. We look forward to coming again and I’m really grateful for this activity at Finsbury Park.”
