National Education Union: London New & Young Educators Network

National Education Union: London New & Young Educators Network We are a network within the NEU for members that are within their first 3 years of working in education or under the age of 35.

If you teach in London and are 35 years old or under then we want you to GET INVOLVED! Every day young teachers in the capital's schools are dealing with the front line realities of the government's education policies. Now, more than ever, we need to organise so that all teachers feel secure in their jobs and can get on with delivering the top class education that all young people deserve. Key Iss

ues that we are currently campaigning on include school funding, teacher workload and affordable housing. If you're not a teacher in London aged 35 or under, you can use this page to keep up to date with our events and campaigns. If you are a teacher in London aged 35 or under and then it would be great to see you at one of our events soon. This network is growing and constantly welcoming new members. Feel free to get in touch by sending us a message in advance. We also have a Facebook group that you can find here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/580541655454188/?fref=nf

🔥 London NEU NPYW Bowling Night - It’s Back!

It’s that time again 👀
North London’s finest Rowan’s is calling - bowling, karaoke, solidarity and a night to actually exhale with people who get it. New & young educators, this one is for you.

🗓 Friday 30th January
📍 Rowan’s Tenpin Bowl, Finsbury Park
🎳 Bowling • 🎤 Karaoke • 🍕 Pizza
💷 Entry: £1 per person (everything else covered)

We know January is long and money’s tight, that’s exactly why we run this. Come eat, play, laugh and meet educators who know the job, the chaos, the joy and the pressure.

👥 Open to all London NEU new & young educators (first come, first served)
Because spaces and budget are limited, please only register if you know you can attend. No-shows mean others lose out, and we put real time and money into making this happen for you.

⏳ Registration link drops later this week so keep an eye in our WhatsApp group chat and on here. Send a DM if you’re not on the WhatsApp and want to be.

For now, check your availability for this date and save the date, forward this to friends and get ready.

✨ What a night! ✨
We kicked off the year with our London New & Young Educators’ Network (NPYW) Welcome Event, bringing together early career teachers, trainees and support staff from across the region for an evening of politics, discussion and connection.

The event was opened by our London NPYW co-chairs and supported by an incredible organising team, with a panel of educators active in the union who identify as part of the NPYW Network. We also heard from NEU Executive members, the London Renters Union (LRU) and from our national NPYW chair about the Better Deal for New Educators campaign, now being pushed nationally by the NPYW Network.

There were fantastic questions from the floor on supply, support staff, support plans, academies, working from home, protected PPA and knowing your rights.

Alongside the political conversations came plenty of pizza, networking and laughter - a brilliant space to build understanding of the union, meet others and share experiences. 🍕💬

It was great to see so many new faces at their first NPYW event and to feel the excitement and solidarity that make this network what it is.

Here’s to a year of growth, connection and community. Keep a look out for an email about our annual bowling social coming up soon 👀.

*London New and Young Educators Network endorses Sarah Kilpatrick for DGS*

We are delighted to announce that the network voted to endorse Sarah for Deputy General Secretary!

Sarah has consistently supported new and young members and activists in the NEU. Last term, she spoke at our day conference in Hamilton House, addressing 80 delegates. A testament to her tireless efforts up and down the country, as our elected national President.

With the political poly-crisis of the rising threat of the far right, the genocide in Gaza and the erosion of our rights and liberties - Sarah has a track record of stepping up to the plate and championing working class interests!

*Therefore, as a network, we urge you to post back your vote for Sarah Kilpatrick*

This week, we had an election to decide who would be the next co-chairs of the NEU London New & Young Educators' Network.

On Monday, we had an amazing turn out for our NEU London New & Young Educators' Network election for the co-chairs for the next academic year. A big congratulations to Shaniqua Edwards-Hayde & John Stephens for being reelected for yet another year as co-chairs of the network 🥳.

It's been another year where the London NYE network has gone from strength to strength!

The future for NYPW members continues to be bright and they've gone on to do amazing things this last academic year. We've seen more of our NPYW members become reps, attend events, organise and lead events, become district secretaries and one even becoming an exec member. We've got a range of educators involved, not just teachers, and we've got such a diverse range of educators involved.

Thank you to those who attended the election and listened to our 3 amazing candidates.

A big congratulations again to your elected co-chairs, for a second year, of the NEU London New & Young Educators' Network, Shaniqua Edwards-Hayde & John.
Stephens.

We can't wait to see how it all goes this year.
