If you or a loved one rely on adult social care, you already know how difficult it can be to get the right support in place. It can often feel like an uphill struggle just to get a basic assessment or a fair care package.

We want you to know something important: it is not your fault.

At Access Social Care, our legal team has been investigating how the government decides on social care funding. Our latest campaign update reveals that underfunding isn't an accident. The current funding model itself has deep structural flaws, meaning that financial shortfalls are effectively built into the system from the start.

We are taking legal action to demand complete honesty and transparency from the government. We all deserve to know how these life-changing decisions are being made.

A huge thank you to ivolve care and support for their generous fundraising, which helps us keep up this legal fight for your rights.

Want to know exactly what we have uncovered and what we are doing next? Read our plain-English campaign update here: https://www.accesscharity.org.uk/news-blog/foiupdate?utm_source=facebook&utm_content=FOIUpdate

👉 Remember, if you are currently facing a challenge with your own care or assessments, you can chat with Ava on our website 24/7 for free, lawyer-approved guidance and template letters to help you know your rights. https://www.accessava.org.uk/

🤔 How does digital technology help social care and what do you think it could do in the future? Does anything worry you about the growing use of tech?

The Digital Care and Innovation team at the Centre for Care is running a survey to gather opinions from people with both personal and professional experience.

You don’t need to be a tech expert to take part at all. They want to hear from people with all kinds of backgrounds and perspectives. Can you tell them what you think works well? Or causes difficulties or concerns? And what do you think researchers should focus on next?

Please take part and share with your networks:

Today on Global Accessibility Awareness Day, we’re shining a light on why accessible information matters because understanding your rights shouldn’t be confusing, overwhelming, or out of reach.

At AccessAva, we believe everyone deserves clear, accessible support when navigating health and social care. That’s why AccessAva provides free, expert backed legal guidance 24/7, helping people across England understand their social care rights and take action with confidence.

Accessibility is about:

✅ Clear language

✅ Empowering people to advocate for their rights

AccessAva was created to break down barriers to social care information, offering personalised guidance, practical resources, and legal template letters developed and checked by lawyers.

This GAAD, let’s continue building a world where accessibility is not an afterthought, but a standard.

Mental Health Awareness Week is a reminder that small actions can have a powerful impact. This year’s message is all about the power of action — and for many carers, families, and professionals, simply knowing where to start can make all the difference.

Navigating health and social care systems can feel overwhelming, even for experienced carers and professionals. The paperwork, legal language, and complex processes can make accessing the right support feel like a full-time job in itself.

That’s where AccessAva comes in. By providing clear, accessible guidance and template letters, AccessAva empowers carers, professionals, and anyone seeking support to understand their rights and take action with confidence.

Whether you’re caring for a relative, helping a friend, or supporting professionally, having the right information at your fingertips changes everything. It transforms uncertainty into action, and stress into empowerment. 💙

The theme for this year’s Deaf Awareness Week is ‘Right to understand – Together, we break barriers.’ 🤝

This , we are joining the call to break the barriers holding back full accessibility for those with hearing loss.

We know that information is power. But for many in the Deaf community, that power is stripped away by inaccessible services, a lack of BSL interpreters, and limited captioning. When communication breaks down, rights are often overlooked.

We believe that social care must be accessible to all. Together, we can break barriers and ensure that everyone’s voice is heard and their rights are protected.

We hear from care providers that they often find that care packages are cut by the local authority after a review is carried out. Did you know that your council should carry out a new needs assessment before proposing any reduction in your care? Visit https://www.accessava.org.uk/ for more information about your rights.

Happy World Book Night! 📚

No costumes required! Today is actually about the adults. For World Book Night, we are celebrating the power of stories to connect us and the importance of seeing our own lives reflected on the page.

Representation in literature matters. We are spotlighting brilliant authors who share their lived experiences of disability and neurodivergence:

📙Strong Female Character by Fern Brady: A witty and sharp memoir about a late-stage autism diagnosis.

📕Haben: The Deafblind Woman Who Conquered Harvard Law by Haben Girma: An incredible journey of resilience and advocacy.

📗Alter Ego by Helen Heckety: The winner of the 2025 ADCI Literary Prize - a powerful work that explores the intersections of identity and disability.

📙 Ramping Up Rights by Rachel Charlton-Dailey: An essential history of disability activism

Join the national tonight between 7pm and 8pm. Whether it is a physical book, an audiobook, or a Quick Read, every story counts.
