🖤 Black History Month | Celebrating Our Community🖤

This Black History Month, we are proud to celebrate Black history, culture, resilience and achievement, while recognising the incredible contributions Black communities continue to make.

As a Black Somali, community-based charity, we understand the struggles, barriers and challenges faced by our communities. Through our Women’s Inclusive Team (WIT), we are committed to creating spaces where women feel supported, represented, valued and empowered.

🌟 We are incredibly proud to announce that Hoden Mohamoud, one of our WIT employees, has been honoured as part of this year’s Black History Month celebrations.

Hoden’s recognition is a proud moment for us and reflects the dedication, commitment and positive impact she brings to our organisation and community. It also highlights the importance of recognising and celebrating Black women and the valuable contributions they make.

For us, Black History Month is not only about looking back at our history, but also about celebrating the achievements of our community today and inspiring future generations.

What a brilliant way to kick off another year of Hiddo Girls! 💕🎉

Our girls had so much fun celebrating together — enjoying some delicious matcha 🍵, playing games 🎲, learning beautiful nasheeds 🎶 and spending quality time connecting with one another.

It was lovely to see so much laughter, energy and friendship in the room. 💗 We’re excited for everything the 2026/27 Hiddo Girls programme has in store!

As we leave September, we also leave behind Su***de Prevention Month, but the conversations, compassion and support should never stop. 💚

At Women’s Inclusive Team, we believe that a little can go a long way. Sometimes it’s as simple as asking, “Are you okay?” — and genuinely listening to the answer. Checking in, offering support, creating a safe space, and reminding someone that they don’t have to face things alone can make a meaningful difference.
For many Muslims and people from different cultural backgrounds, talking openly about su***de and mental health can feel difficult. Fear of stigma, judgement, shame or misunderstanding can make it harder to say, “I’m struggling.”
That’s why we believe it’s so important to break the silence and challenge the stigma. Talking about our thoughts and feelings doesn’t make us weak. Asking for help doesn’t make us a burden. And supporting someone doesn’t always mean having the answers — sometimes, it simply means being there.
💚 Ask the question, even if it feels small.
💚 Listen without judgement.
💚 Check in again.
💚 Let someone know they matter.
💚 Encourage support when it’s needed.
Because sometimes, a little really does go a long way.
Let’s keep the conversation going beyond September. We all need someone to talk to. 🫶🏽

🚗✨ Theory Test Taster Course with the Haawa Team! ✨🚦

Our Haawa Team held a fantastic Theory Test Taster Course at the Nari Centre, supporting clients to build their knowledge and confidence as they prepare for their driving theory test.

Participants practised theory test questions, developed their understanding of the Highway Code and road safety, and had the opportunity to ask questions in a supportive and encouraging environment. 📚🚘

The session was made even more enjoyable with food, refreshments, games and prizes! 🎉🏆

It was wonderful to see everyone getting involved, learning together and leaving the session feeling more confident and motivated. A huge well done to our Haawa Team and everyone who took part! 💜👏

We are incredibly grateful to Foundation For FutureLondon for funding our HAAWA Hope Project, delivered alongside AmourDestine & Bromley by Bow Centre . 💜

HAAWA Hope is a domestic abuse project focused on supporting survivors, raising awareness and helping create safer, more empowered communities.

Through the project, we are working to:
💜 Support survivors of domestic abuse with compassion and dignity
🫶🏽 Create safe spaces where people can feel heard, supported and believed
📚 Raise awareness of domestic abuse, its impact and the support available
🌱 Help survivors rebuild confidence, independence and hope for the future
🤝 Connect people with appropriate support, services and community resources
📣 Challenge stigma and encourage conversations around domestic abuse
🏡 Promote healthier, safer relationships and communities

This funding makes it possible for us to reach more people, provide meaningful support and continue building a future where survivors feel empowered and communities are better equipped to recognise and respond to domestic abuse.
