Future Talent

Future Talent supports young musicians from low-income backgrounds through funding for musical expenses and development opportunities.

We believe that no young person should be priced out of reaching their musical potential. Founded in 2004 by The Duchess of Kent and Nicholas Robinson, we break down barriers, create opportunities and harness the power of music to transform the lives of young musicians across the UK. With over 4.2 million children living in poverty in the UK and thousands of children with exceptional musical abilities failed by society every year, we want to achieve an equal reality where all gifted young musicians from low-income backgrounds flourish. Our Development & Junior Programmes offers unique opportunities for young musicians to build confidence, develop personal skills, and enhance their musical experience. We aim to support, develop and listen to the needs and aspirations of gifted young musicians who present challenges to their development.

Sharing the highlights ✨

Giving a shout out to the strings! Our ambassador Sheku Kanneh-Mason was kind enough to say a few words at our recent concert, before Kiera, Luke, Sami and Fauve performed a rendition of Piazzolla's Libertango - a piece they had worked on with Sheku during a masterclass in July.

Later, our ambassador and violinist Chloë Hanslip introduced the string orchestra, which played Suite from Henry V by William Walton. The string orchestra was lead by our alumni Teagan Craggs 🎻🎶

The first on many wonderful photo's and videos that captured our concert yesterday.

Future Talent: Celebrating Katharine's Legacy saw over 50 young musicians and Future Talent alumni and our ambassadors perform for an audience of 300 people, which included HRH The Duke of Kent and HRH Prince Michael of Kent, along with many of Katharine's family members, friends of Future Talent, and of course the wonderful parents of the young musicians we support.

We are so grateful to our young musicians and their families who put in so much hard work, and put on an incredible show 🩷

Things are looking a little different around here! We've spent some time refreshing our look and are so excited to share our new branding with you.

We have a brand new website to make it easier to find the information you need, put young musicians at the heart of our story, and better reflect our mission.

While our logo, website and branding has evolved, our purpose remains the same: supporting young musicians from low-income backgrounds to reach their full potential.

We don't just bring new musicians to the stage, but new music too!

16-year-old composer and violinist Laura, winner of our Award for New Music, has written a brass fanfare especially for our concert in memory on the Duchess of Kent, known to many of her students as 'Mrs Kent'.

The piece will have it's première on Sunday 27th September at Smith Square Hall, and we're so proud of what Laura has created - it sounds absolutely brilliant and we can't wait for you all to hear.

There's only a handful of tickets remaining so make sure to get yours and be part of the very first audience for Laura's Fanfare for Mrs Kent.
