Future Talent is the UK charity supporting young musicians from low-income backgrounds.

We exist to stop income, geography and background silencing music potential. Founded in 2004 by The Duchess of Kent and Nicholas Robinson, we break down barriers, create opportunities and harness the power of music to transform the lives of young musicians across the UK. With over 4.2 million children living in poverty in the UK and thousands of children with exceptional musical abilities failed b

y society every year, we want to achieve an equal reality where all gifted young musicians from low-income backgrounds flourish. Our Development & Junior Programmes offers unique opportunities for young musicians to build confidence, develop personal skills, and enhance their musical experience. We aim to support, develop and listen to the needs and aspirations of gifted young musicians who present challenges to their development.

From the archives...

Back in 2008, when Mamma Mia! was the biggest film at the box office and everyone was talking about the Beijing Olympics, Future Talent musicians were taking to the stage at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club alongside professional jazz performers.

The evening raised funds for the charity, and guests left with goody bags decorated by local schoolchildren. It was one of many memorable events organised and supported by The Duchess of Kent, whose commitment to young musicians helped create opportunities like this.

As we count down to our upcoming concert Celebrating Katharine's Legacy, we'll be taking a look back through the Future Talent archives and sharing some of the moments that helped shape the charity's journey.

These photographs were taken at a concert at Goldsmiths' Hall in 2006, just two years after Future Talent was founded. Highlights that year included helping a 9-year-old flautist from Peterborough secure a scholarship to Lincoln Minster School, funding a new violin for a 9-year-old musician from East London, and purchasing instruments for a brass band in Suffolk.

The concert itself featured an exceptional line-up of young artists, including Mark Simpson, winner of the 2006 BBC Young Musician competition (Clarinet), Benjamin Grosvenor, finalist in the 2004 BBC Young Musician Keyboard category (Piano) and Future Talent young musicians.

Join us on Sunday 27 September 2026 at Sinfonia Smith Square, London, for our incredible upcoming concert: Celebrating Katharine's Legacy.

Hosted by Alexander Armstrong, this concert will celebrate the remarkable impact of Future Talent's co-founder, the late Duchess of Kent, whose vision continues to transform the lives of talented young musicians across the UK.

Featuring performances from Future Talent musicians past and present, alongside acclaimed artists including Rekesh Chauhan and Matilda Lloyd, the programme will include some of Katharine's favourite music as well as new works by Future Talent's young composers.

Every ticket purchased helps continue Katharine's vision: ensuring potential, not family income, determines a young person's future.

📍 We’ve moved!

Six young Future Talent cellists aged 13-16 travelled from across the UK to attend a masterclass by our ambassador, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, at the Royal Academy of Music!

The session included a workshop on an arrangement for cello quartet of Piazzolla's Libertango, and individual performances of pieces by Bach, Saint-Saëns and Debussy, with Sheku offering guidance on technique and interpretation.

We are so grateful for his continued support and for providing such an invaluable experience for our young musicians from low-income backgrounds. ✨
