Come along and browse a wide selection of aviation books, magazines and other aviation-related publications. You never know what aviation treasure you might find!

And by picking up a bargain, you’ll be helping to preserve aviation history – all proceeds support the conservation of historic aviation material in the National Aerospace Library’s archives.

Everyone is welcome! Free entry.

We recommend parking next to the 24ft Tunnel, the tall grey building with the clock facing Farnborough Road.

Set your sat nav to Hall Road, Farnborough. Access via the traffic lights on the A325 by the Barons BMW showroom. Continue past the showroom and The Gloster pub, then take the next left into the site.

From airline pilot to BAC 1-11 pilot – and into the Concorde test pilot’s seat!
In part two of the NAL's oral history interview with Alan Smith, he recalls his remarkable journey from RAF pilot to airline captain, BAC 1-11 pilot and instructor, ultimately, Concorde test pilot.

After leaving the RAF, Alan faced eight demanding months of exams and flying to earn his Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence. He went on to fly the DC-3 and de Havilland Heron, before joining the British Aircraft Corporation, where he became a BAC 1-11 pilot and instructor, training airline crews and delivering aircraft around the world.

Then, in 1969, Alan boldly wrote to Concorde’s Deputy Chief Test Pilot after learning of redundancies at BAC – a move that took him to Fairford and into the Concorde programme.

Listen to Alan’s story and discover how determination, opportunity and a little boldness took him from the RAF to the forefront of supersonic aviation.
