Hackney Shed

Hackney Shed Hackney Shed is an Inclusive Theatre Company for young people aged 7-25 yrs and of mixed abilities.

The term inclusive reflects the desire to include all children no matter what their ability. We are an inclusive theatre company and our mission is to provide a vibrant, creative and informal atmosphere where members come together, share ideas and produce exciting theatre in an inclusive environment. The charity consciously seeks to engage and educate disadvantaged children and young people who oftentimes find it difficult to access arts activities.

COLLECTIVE CABARET:
Old stage. New voices.

Hackney Shed and Hoxton Hall invite you to create a BRAND NEW CABARET as part of Discover Young Hackney 2026.

This four-day project is for 15–25-year-olds, prioritising young people who are neurodivergent and/or have a learning disability. Work with professional artists to develop a new performance through workshops in drama, design and songwriting.

Across the week, participants will collaborate to build an original cabaret performance from scratch, ending with a final performance at Hoxton Hall on Friday. The project will be creative, collaborative and shaped by you, the performers and makers.

We actively encourage disabled young people to apply, and our experienced team can provide support for participants who may need it. No previous performance experience is needed. Support needs and access requirements can be discussed with the team.

If you have any questions about access or any other aspect of the project, please get in touch.

When: 28–31 July, 11am–5pm
Where: Hoxton Hall, 130 Hoxton Street, London, N1 6SH
Who: 15–25-year-olds (particularly encouraging young people who are neurodivergent and/or have a learning disability)
Cost: Free to attend, with lunch provided

OPPORTUNITIES

Digital and Oral History Archivist

We are seeking a passionate, organised and community-minded Digital and Oral History Archivist to lead on the digital heritage elements of Shedlight: Young Voices Shining a Light on 25 Years of Inclusive Practice. This is a National Lottery Heritage Funded project. This role is ideal for someone with experience in digital archiving, oral history collection and participatory heritage projects, who is looking to complement existing commitments while working creatively with young people in an inclusive arts setting.

Working closely with the Archive Manager, a group of Young Archivists and project partners, you will lead on the creation of an accessible digital timeline and oversee the collection, recording and transcribing of oral histories that capture the voices and experiences of our community. A key part of the role will involve training and mentoring both staff and young people in archival and oral history practices, building the skills and confidence of the wider team to sustain the archive beyond the life of the project.

We are looking for someone with strong digital skills, including experience in digital preservation, cataloguing and managing digital assets, excellent attention to detail, and a collaborative, inclusive approach. You will have experience handling archival materials and oral histories sensitively and ethically, ensuring outputs meet National Lottery Heritage Fund guidelines and prioritise accessibility and inclusion. This role will suit someone who enjoys balancing independent working with meaningful collaboration as part of a small, creative and values-driven team.

If you are passionate about preserving community stories, amplifying young voices, and making heritage accessible to all, we would love to hear from you.

Please send completed applications by no later than: 22nd June 2026 at 10am
