WHAT WE DO

Giving Voice

IWPR empowers local voices to drive change in countries in conflict, crisis and transition. Where hate speech and propaganda proliferate, and journalists and civic activists are under attack, IWPR promotes reliable information and public debate that makes a difference. Driving Change

By helping local voices to be heard, IWPR builds peace, improves governance and advances

human rights. With three decades’ experience, IWPR maintains extensive local networks and expert program teams, making us uniquely positioned to mobilise the power of information to create more stable, just and inclusive societies.

In Chișinău, we marked the national close-out of the current phase of BREN II with a two-day event bringing together civil society organisations, partners, and experts to reflect on a shared journey — and look ahead.

Under the theme “Security Starts in Communities,” the event placed local voices and experiences at the centre of the conversation.

BREN grantees and partner organisations led the discussions — moderating sessions, sharing lessons learned, and reflecting on how their work has contributed to social cohesion and resilience.

From exploring the role of communities in national security, to discussing trust, crisis leadership, and evolving risks, the event created space for honest reflection on both progress and remaining challenges.

The Cyber Help Desk supported several sessions, contributing practical perspectives on navigating online and offline threats, strengthening preparedness, and supporting organisations under pressure, including through mental health and resilience approaches.

As this iteration of BREN comes to a close, one thing is clear: Strong, connected communities are at the heart of lasting resilience.

Over two days in Yerevan, we came together to mark the national close-out of the current phase of BREN II in Armenia, reflecting on progress, partnerships, and what comes next.

But this was not just a closing event.

Civil society organisations and BREN grantees were at the centre of the discussions — leading panels, moderating sessions, and sharing real experiences from their work on the ground.

From advancing the Women, Peace and Security agenda, to strengthening inclusivity, media collaboration, and trust in complex environments, the conversations highlighted both achievements and ongoing challenges.

The Cyber Help Desk also contributed to the programme, bringing practical insights on managing risks in pre- and post-election periods, strengthening organisational resilience, and supporting mental health and decision-making under pressure.

Across all sessions, one message stood out: Resilience is built through collaboration, trust, and shared learning.

As this iteration of BREN comes to a close in Armenia, the network of civil society organisations is stronger, more connected, and better prepared to respond to emerging risks.

Strengthening Communication for the Women, Peace & Security Agenda 🇲🇩✨

Under the BREN II programme, the Platforma pentru Inițiative de Securitate și Apărare launched a workshop series on November 10 for communicators and institutional focal points working on NAP 1325.

Over 30 participants came together to strengthen strategic communication and tackle misinformation surrounding women’s role in peace and security. They explored institutional vulnerabilities and proposed practical solutions, from boosting transparency and rapid media responses to training territorial teams and planning proactive communication campaigns.

Participants were also introduced to a draft inter-institutional protocol for responding to disinformation, including red-flag indicators, coordinated messaging, and communication impact assessments.

These workshops aim to turn the Strategic Communication Plan for the WPS Agenda into an active coordination tool, ensuring messages on peace, security, and equality are clear, credible, and consistent.

🕊️ Building peace starts with dialogue — and with those ready to lead it.

Under the BREN II programme, one of our Moldovan partners, the Institutul pentru Democrație și Dezvoltare (I4DD), recently trained 25 students from the “Ștefan cel Mare” Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on Negotiation and Mediation for Peace. 🇲🇩 Institutul pentru Democrație și Dezvoltare

Through interactive sessions and real-life case studies, participants learned how to turn conflict into cooperation — mastering empathy, active listening, and strategic thinking.
Led by experienced diplomats and peace negotiators, the training offered a rare inside look at Moldova’s reintegration processes and the role of women’s leadership in peacebuilding.

🌿 The message was clear: peace is not just a skill — it’s a responsibility we all share.
