On two magical summer evenings in June, we celebrated the fifth Opera at Syon for Brain Research UK, raising an incredible £119,900 for vital neurological research 🥂

With outstanding performances from in the stunning Great Conservatory at , it was another truly unforgettable event.

“Both evenings were absolutely wonderful, great music, delicious food and splendid company.”

The funds raised will help fund research into brain tumours, acquired brain and spinal injuries, and headache and facial pain. It brings us another step closer to better understanding, diagnosis, treatments and, ultimately, prevention of the brain conditions that still devastate too many lives.

Around 2.6 million people in the UK are living with the effects of an acquired brain or spinal cord injury.

These injuries can happen in an instant, following a traumatic injury to the head or spine, or as the result of conditions such as stroke. For many, the impact can last a lifetime.

At Brain Research UK, your donations are funding research to better understand how the brain and spinal cord can repair after injury, helping more people make the best possible recovery and regain independence.

Your donations have helped researchers investigate one of the biggest barriers to treating brain tumours 🔬

Unlike many other cancers, brain surgeons can't remove the healthy tissue surrounding a brain tumour to ensure every cancer cell is gone – the risk of damaging vital brain tissue is simply too high.

Thanks to Brain Research UK supporters, a project pioneering new ways to study the remaining cells left behind after surgery has just been completed. Mr Ryan Mathew and Dr Heiko Wurdak's findings are now helping researchers better understand why brain tumours return and providing a platform to test potential new drugs and devices 🧪

Last year, 11 Brain Research UK funded research projects reached completion. These projects were made possible thanks to the support from people like you ❤️

Research takes time. Most projects take 3-4 years to complete, involving everything from laboratory work and data analysis to publishing findings in journals. These projects help to move brain research forward.

Today, vital donations are helping to fund 32 ongoing research projects, all working towards better understanding, prevention and treatment of brain tumours, brain and spinal injuries, and headache and facial pain.
