“It felt like being given a death sentence.”

In 2023, Genevieve was a healthy, active community artist when she began experiencing a sharp headache behind her right eye and disturbing changes to her vision.

An aneurism, a stoke and a brain bleed permanently changed her life.

She could never have imagined that two years later, she would have undergone four neurological surgeries, and nine forms of rehabilitation.

Genevieve reached out to Brain Research UK to share her experience and highlight the importance of research into stroke. "I once heard it said that we know more about outer space than our own brains! Let’s change that and get to know ourselves and each other better for future health and longevity."

A huge thank you to our incredible Copenhagen Half Marathon team, who took on the streets of Copenhagen and raised over £8,000 for Brain Research UK.

This Migraine Awareness Week, we're thinking about the millions of people living with migraine 🧠

Migraine is much more than a headache. Attacks can bring severe pain, disturbed vision, nausea and sensitivity to light and sound - and can have a huge impact on work, family and social life.

At least 10 million people in the UK are affected, yet there is still no cure, and current treatments don't work for everyone.

That's why Brain Research UK is funding research to better understand migraine and find new ways to treat it.

Ten runners took on the Great North Run, raising money for Brain Research UK 🏃🧠

You might have heard Rachel and her friends on Heart Radio, dressed in their caterpillar costume 🦋 Rachel said about the day, “The support in the North East is amazing - best day of the year!”

Twin sisters Jo and Jean took on the World Bog Snorkelling Championships to raise money for Brain Research UK 🏊‍♀️💙

They chose to fundraise after a close friend of more than 40 years, and fellow Army veteran, was tragically diagnosed with two glioblastoma brain tumours. Jo and Jean have raised an incredible £1,660 to help fund vital brain tumour research.

A huge thank you to Jo and Jean, and to everyone who supported their amazing fundraising. What a way to turn friendship into something that will help others 🧠

On Sunday, 25 Brain Research UK supporters took on the Big Half in London and raised £11,000 for vital research 🙌

Running challenges like the Big Half inspire people to test their limits, set a goal and make every step along that journey count for something bigger.

Nysa, one of the runners on the day shared, "The Big Half was an amazing experience and such a good race for my first half marathon. While it was super difficult, I hope to be back soon!"

Your donations have helped uncover how low-grade brain tumours develop and how their progress to becoming high-grade tumours could be stopped 📢❤️

Richard Mair and his colleagues have developed new models to understand low-grade gliomas and how they change as they progress to more aggressive forms.

Their research revealed how low oxygen levels within a tumour can amplify how cancer cells grow and become more difficult to treat.

Thanks to our donors, these new models and insights provide an important foundation for exploring treatments that could block the progression from low-grade to high-grade glioma, potentially improving outcomes for young people living with rare brain cancers. Read more:
