We had a fantastic day yesterday at a walking tour of three community projects in Hackney.

The tour highlighted some of the great work taking place in the local voluntary and community sector in .

We started at the ‘Warm Shores’ statues, outside Hackney Town Hall, for a welcome and introductions.

Our tour took in three community projects: Hackney Quest, CoHub and HOPE at Morningside.

Hackney Quest run a series of programmes and activities to support, develop and empower young people, families and the community in Hackney.

CoHub is a community-powered space in Hackney, running a Community Closet and providing advice, training, and volunteering opportunities for residents.
CoCreate Hackney

HOPE @ Morningside is a youth club, community lunch and various other activities at the Morningside Community Centre.

We also had a bonus visit to the Hackney Playbus, which was parked up at Morningside.

In addition to staff and trustees from Hackney CVS, we were joined by
High Sheriff of Greater London - Dhruv Patel
Deputy Lieutenant - Professor Linda Drew
Madam Speaker of Hackney - Councillor Antoinette Fernandez

Residents and local organisations came together on Saturday at the Daubeney Fields Fun Day for for a brilliant afternoon of fun, connection and getting active!

Around 180 people took part in the Hackney Marshes Neighbourhood Forum event, led by Polly the Neighbourhood facilitator from wickaward . Residents enjoyed free activities including yoga, hula, African dance and drumming, tag rugby, Hackney Playbus activities for under-5s and introductions to the park’s gym equipment.

The event offered brilliant opportunities to:
💚 Discover free and low-cost ways to be active locally
💬 Connect residents with local services and community groups
❤️‍🩹 Find out about opportunities to stay active while managing long-term pain
🤝 Meet neighbours and strengthen community connections
📣 Share priorities for future Neighbourhood Forum activity
😋 Enjoy a free lunch - 100 free picnic bags were given out to residents!

The event was made possible through the support of a fantastic range of local partners and community organisations, including Hackney Playbus, Hearts & Minds Partnership , Sanctuary Housing, Pedro Club , Better, Volunteer Centre Hackney , Somali Women’s Group, Daubeney Fields Forever and many more.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, took part, shared their views and helped make the third Daubeney Fields Fun Day such a success 🙌

Welcome to Elliott Hills, who has recently joined Hackney CVS as the Neighbourhood Facilitator for the City of London, on secondment from Age UK East London 😊

Elliott coordinates the Older People’s Reference Groups (OPRGs) - quarterly forums where older people can make their voices heard, help shape the services they use, and connect with service providers and their peers.

Elliott is looking forward to bringing this experience to his new role, working with residents and partners across the Square Mile to build connections, strengthen community relationships and support positive change around local health and wellbeing priorities.

Outside of work, Elliott lives in south east London and enjoys playing cricket and chess, reading, cooking and volunteering in his community.

Elliott works part-time at Hackney CVS, usually on Tuesdays and Wednesday mornings, and is looking forward to meeting and working with residents, community groups and partners across the City of London.

We are very much looking forward to working with Elliott who joins a team of four other Neighbourhood Facilitators, working across the eight neighbourhoods in City and Hackney.

This year's report explores access to healthy, affordable food in City and Hackney, focusing on the essential work taking place in our communities.

A lively panel discussion took place at the event, featuring community representatives from Woodberry Aid , CoCreate Hackney and Hackney School of Food.

The panel also included Rachel King, Hackney Food Network Coordinator at Hackney CVS, who spoke about the vital community food groups across the borough and their need for more support.

Rachel said: "It was so enriching to hear their perspectives first hand about the work they do and the differences they are making."

Rachel added: "We are incredibly lucky to have such dedicated people in Hackney working so hard to bring change and support to our communities and to have residents at the centre of what they do."
