The Sarcoma UK online bereavement support group is open to anyone over 18 who has lost someone to sarcoma and whose loved one received care in the UK.

Meetings are held on Zoom, last 90 minutes, and focus on shared experiences and mutual support.

Living with incurable cancer as a young adult can feel isolating. Shine Cancer Support ’s Circles programme offers a space to connect with others who understand what you’re going through.

The programme brings together small groups of up to 12 young adults with cancer for six weekly online sessions. Each week explores a different topic, with plenty of time to talk, listen and share experiences at your own pace.

One participant said:

“The programme and facilitators are amazing and there is absolutely no pressure during the sessions. You can share however much or little you want… I met some amazing people that I have stayed in touch with.”

The Welsh Government is developing a new National Cancer Strategy for Wales, setting out how cancer experiences and outcomes could be improved over the next ten years.

Macmillan Cancer Support and the Wales Cancer Alliance want to make sure people with lived experience of cancer are heard as the strategy is developed.

He chose to leave a gift to Sarcoma UK, knowing his legacy could help fund vital research, provide essential support and raise awareness of this rare cancer.

This autumn, we want to make writing your will a little easier. We’ve teamed up with Octopus Legacy and the National Free Wills Network to cover the cost of a simple will, with discounted options also available for wills with trusts.

What a phenomenal achievement from 9-year-old Jacob!

On Saturday, Jacob climbed Snowdon, reaching the summit in under three hours despite heavy rain and strong winds.

Jacob was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in March. Just four and a half months ago, he underwent major limb-saving surgery in New York, making this achievement all the more remarkable.

There were moments during the climb when he was tired and hurting, but he kept going with unwavering determination, supported by a fantastic group of friends.

Jacob has now raised over £5,000 for Sarcoma UK and Children with Cancer UK . Thank you, Jacob! We’re so grateful for your support. 💙

To mark the end of Desmoid Tumour Awareness Month, we’re pleased to share that Sarcoma UK are supporting the launch of a new online support group for people affected by desmoid tumours.

Starting on 21 October, the group will be a space to connect with others, share experiences and find support from people who understand.

It was wonderful to see so many people come together in Manchester to walk, raise awareness of sarcoma and show their support for everyone affected by this rare cancer. We’re so grateful to everyone who joined us.

We welcome the launch of the reformed National Cancer Board, which will scrutinise progress on the commitments made in the National Cancer Plan.

For people affected by sarcoma and other rare cancers, we’re particularly pleased to see a dedicated clinical lead for rare cancers appointed to the Board.

The National Cancer Plan includes important commitments to improve care and research for rare cancers, and strong accountability will be vital in turning these commitments into meaningful change for patients.

We look forward to seeing the Board’s progress and continuing to make sure the needs of people affected by sarcoma are heard.

As part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we’re highlighting research led by Dr Carmela de Santo at the University of Birmingham .

Her team is investigating why immunotherapy hasn’t yet been as effective for childhood sarcomas such as osteosarcoma and rhabdomyosarcoma, and how we could change that.

The researchers are studying how sarcoma cells create an environment that stops immune cells from working properly. Using what they learn, they hope to engineer patients’ own immune cells so they can better reach, survive inside and attack the tumour.

Ultimately, this research could help pave the way for more effective, personalised treatments with fewer long-term side effects for children with sarcoma. 💙
