Busoga Trust

Busoga Trust The Busoga Trust is a water, sanitation & hygiene NGO working in rural Uganda. We have constructed over 2500 water sources since 1983.

The Busoga Trust, founded in 1982, has been working to improve the health and prosperity of the people of Uganda for 28 years. Over the course of the past three decades, we have constructed over 2000 safe water sources serving in excess of an estimated 1,000,000 Ugandans. However, as each water source is only designed to serve 250 people, we need to increase the density of our coverage to avoid pu

tting strain on the pumps. We have gained much experience over our history and learnt many lessons, sometimes the hard way. We now place as much, if not more, emphasis on hygiene and sanitation as we do water. The two are intrinsically linked and any neglect of one, renders the others null and void. In all communities we work in, sanitation and hygiene comes first.

Story of the Week!

Each week we will be adding one of our favourite stories from our team on the ground in Uganda.

This week, we are meeting Sudais, 7 years old from Kikoota Village. Here's what he had to say:

“My name is Sudais, I’m 7 years old from Kikoota Village. I thank Busoga Trust for repairing our borehole. I almost lost my life 6 months back while trying to fetch water from a dirty pond, and when I drank it I got diarrhoea. But now, Busoga Trust has repaired our borehole and it pumps very clean water for drinking. Thank you Busoga Trust!”

Our Story

The Busoga Trust provides sustainable access to safe water, improved sanitation and comprehensive hygiene education to communities in rural Uganda. Our aim is to empower vulnerable communities to build healthier, more prosperous lives.

Since 1983, the Busoga Trust has constructed over 2500 water sources and has expanded its remit to work not only in the Busoga region but across Uganda. Committed to long term sustainability, our very first well is still pumping clean, accessible water today, over 35 years on.
