This week on Wednesday, 3rd June, myself, the In Sueโ€™s Name team, alongside our partners at Brain Tumour Research, visited the Blizard Institute at Queen Mary University of London for our 2026 Wall of Hope ceremony.

It is always an incredibly moving and poignant day. Alongside a select group of families, we stood together to place personalised magnetic tiles on the Wall of Hope - a powerful, visible tribute to the loved ones we have lost to brain tumours.

What makes me get up every morning and look forward to networking and meeting new people, learning about them and growing my circle of knowledge. 15 years ago we lost our beautiful eldest daughter Sue after a short 6 week illness from Brain Tumours. Having spent 3 years feeling sorry for myself, I decided I wanted to keep my daughter's name alive and raise money for Brain Tumour Research in her name.

Sue was bubbly personality who loved helping people and adored her 2 children Sasha and Daniel and took part in 5 Race for Life Runs and a Sky dive for Cancer Research.

As our first born she and I were very close and before she got married she had a studio photo done and said "Dad I know I am moving out, but hang this picture in your office and I will be always with you. That is the first thing I do each morning and it fires me up for the day even at the age of 84 and her presence has helped us raise ยฃ650k!

I believe that love transcends death and whenever I am low or need help with an event, Sue seems to reach out and help solve that problem.

God Bless you darling Sue, keep your angel prayers for your children and your lovely granddaughter Aleeyah Sue. www.insuesname.org.uk

Rebecca John, 38, from Gloucester, is taking on an incredible challenge of completing a half marathon every month in 2026, in honour of her brother and close friend who have both been diagnosed with brain tumours. She shares what motivates her to keep running and why sheโ€™s determined to raise awareness of this devastating disease.

More positive news - Promising results for potential new glioblastoma treatment

A promising new treatment for glioblastoma has been shown to eliminate the tumour and prevent recurrence in animal studies, achieving what researchers โ€œthought impossibleโ€.

Trogenix has announced the publication of its breakthrough pre-clinical data in Nature, reporting complete tumour eradication in 83% of treated cases and durable protection in a brain cancer model that closely mimics human glioblastoma.

The publication, authored by scientists from the University of Edinburgh, UCL Cancer Institute and The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, focuses on Trogenixโ€™s unique Synthetic Super-Enhancers (SSEs) technology. Trogenix, co-founded by Professor Steve Pollard, is a spin out from the University of Edinburgh and this work was funded by Cancer Research UK and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council.

The gene therapy uses a harmless viral vector (a specially engineered virus which acts as a vehicle) to deliver genetic instructions specifically to glioblastoma tumours. Once inside the tumour cells, these genetic instructions prompt the cell to produce a toxic substance, and also trigger the immune system to attack glioblastoma cells. You can read more about this approach in our blog.

In the study, single dose of SSEs caused tumours to shrink within one to two weeks. In 83% of the treated cases, the tumour disappeared entirely over the subsequent two to three weeks. The research team also gathered evidence of precision immune activation, meaning it triggered the immune system to specifically eliminate the tumour while SSE activity remained undetected in healthy normal brain cells. Excitingly, over the following 11 months, tumours did not return after the initial treatment and there were no harmful side effects...

First new adult brain tumour treatment in 20 years approved
This is fantastic news!
A new drug to treat low-grade glioma has been approved for use on the NHS in England and Wales.
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has today approved vorasidenib to treat adults and children aged 12 years and older, with grade 2 astrocytoma or oligodendroglioma with a susceptible isocitrate dehydrogenase mutation (IDH1 or IDH2).
The drug will be offered to patients who have undergone surgery, but who are not in need of immediate radiotherapy and chemotherapy. It is the first targeted systemic therapy approved for IDH-mutant low-grade glioma.
Read more about how vorasidenib works on our blog.
Based on NICEโ€™s draft guidance, published today, immediate access is available to eligible patients via interim funding through the Cancer Drugs Fund (CDF). For more information, read the full guidance on NICEโ€™s website.
Earlier this month, the Scottish Medicines Consortium approved vorasidenib for suitable patients through NHS Scotland...
