We thank all of our supporters, staff, trustees, volunteers and communities that we have worked with in the last 25 years to support women, children, mothers and babies to identify their health challenges and work together to find the solutions to overcome them.

The community health groups, set up using the Participatory Learning and Action approach (PLA), have saved and changed lives around the world. We have demonstrated, with your help, that they can halve maternal mortality and reduce newborn mortality by a third.

We want to give particular recognition and thanks to all of the inspiring women that have led the groups, who’ve encouraged, empowered and motivated others to get the healthcare and support they need.

So many of these groups, and the work of our partners, will carry on beyond today. There are women, children and people alive today thanks to the practical solutions and knowledge gained from the groups. That’s thanks to you.

Thank you all for being part of our 25-year journey. We wish you all the very best in happiness and health for the future.

Or, as they say in Nepal, ‘dhanyabād’ – धन्यवाद – thank you!

We are delighted to launch our legacy impact report, highlighting the achievements of Women and Children First and our in-country partners over the last 25 years.

Read all about the amazing impact to support women, children, mothers and babies in rural and remote communities achieved by Women & Children First and our in-country partners over the last 25 years.

Professor Anthony Costello, the charity’s founder and Professor of Global Health at UCL, says, “The impact has been far greater than we expected. In rural communities we have shown that newborn deaths can be cut by one third, as well as impacts on maternal deaths, breastfeeding rates, and better nutrition.

“I’d like to thank all our incredibly generous supporters for their contributions, without whom none of this work would have been possible. We also thank all our wonderful country partners, the Chief Executives, our Chairs and a whole host of board members, advisers, fieldworkers, fundraisers and campaigners who have given their blood, sweat and tears to help save lives and to build solidarity and strength in thousands of rural and remote communities.”

The report summarises the key successes and achievements of the community health group approach, using the Participatory Learning and Action approach, also known as PLA.
