Our Chief Executive, Dr Jane Townson OBE, and Policy Specialist, Paul Cooper, took part in two sessions at Care Show Birmingham today, exploring some of the key topics shaping the future of homecare.

🟠 Delegated Healthcare in Homecare: Opportunities, Innovation and Impact

Paul joined Rachel Yates Hoyles from Skills for Care to explore the growing role of delegated healthcare in homecare, including safe delegation, accountability, workforce development and the opportunities and challenges of delivering more complex care at home.

🟠 The big debate: Is the role of technology in care to drive financial resilience of the sector?

Jane joined Stephen Heaps from Agincare, Stephen Veevers from HFT and Dan Archer from Visiting Angels for a discussion about the role of technology in care. Jane joined the debate to argue that while technology can support financial sustainability for homecare providers, “the mission still decides what the technology should do”. At its best, technology should enable better outcomes and create the conditions for quality care - but its potential depends on fair commissioning.

The Homecare Association team were delighted to join these discussions on how homecare can continue to evolve and respond to the changing needs of the sector. 🧡

What has the Homecare Association done to ensure providers are heard?

We took homecare to the heart of the national conversation.

Some key highlights from 2025-26:

🏛️ Attended every major party conference and made representations to senior politicians.

📢 Generated media reach in the billions, amplifying the sector’s voice to millions of people.

📋 Engaged with the Casey Commission on adult social care reform, supplying briefings and reports and giving formal evidence.

🗣️ Gave oral evidence to the COVID-19 Public Inquiry’s Module 6, calling for social care to be treated as essential infrastructure and an equal partner to the NHS in emergency planning.
