A truly wonderful celebration of ageing well and staying connected at Middlesex University yesterday. More than 800 people came along to soak up the entertainment, take in a talk, have a massage, try an activity, get a health check, find out about local services and chat and catch up over lunch and refreshments. So much lovely feedback from people who all said they'd picked up something useful and had a thoroughly good time. We loved seeing you all there!

Some incredible performances from Dare2Dance Company, N12 Community Choir, North Finchley, Rock Choir London • Choirs led by Nicola Cain, The Unpaid Carer Shanty Crew, West End singers Nicola Bentley and Sim Marsh Henry, Bharat dance with Suhani plus three generations of the same family - Shivani, Ansu and Preeam - in Barnet College Dance Fusion. Thanks also to Neville and Shereen for the warm up and warm down.

Thank you to the brilliant organisations that took part - artsdepot, Barnet Council, Barnet Libraries, Barnet Football Club, BOOST Barnet, Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre, The Finchley Charities, GreenDoctors Groundworklon, Inclusion Barnet, The Royal Air Force Museum London, Verdure Wellness Clinic, Diabetes UK and more.

A proud moment for Age UK Barnet
Our dementia club manager José represented Age UK Barnet yesterday at a special garden reception at 10 Downing Street, where Prime Minister Andy Burnham praised the emergency workers, organisations and volunteers who went above and beyond during this summer’s record‑breaking heatwaves and devastating wildfires.

During the heatwave, Jose made sure our dementia club members stayed safe and cool - from welfare calls during session closures to keeping rooms chilled and journeys short plus a ready supply of iced drinks and lollies! His calm, practical leadership meant our members were supported throughout the extreme weather.

In the Number 10 garden, José spoke with the Prime Minister’s wife, Marie-France van Heel, about the importance of community and looking out for our neighbours and the people around us.

We’re incredibly proud of José and his team for championing our work.
