We’re right in the middle of Volunteers’ Week, and last night we celebrated the incredible contribution our volunteers make all year round. It was also a chance to applaud their recent Barnet Civic Award - a well‑deserved recognition of how together our volunteer team improve the lives of older people across our community.

We were honoured to be joined by the Mayor of Barnet, Cllr Zhara Beg, along with Cllrs Alison Moore and Gill Sargeant, who is also one of our Age-friendly champions.

Our volunteer roles are wonderfully varied - from filling out benefits forms, welcoming people on reception and supporting activities and walks, to shopping for or befriending someone who can’t get out.

Many our volunteers only see the person they're supporting and this annual party is the one time that our volunteers get to come together. It was heartwarming to see people get to know each other and find out about the many ways they all give their time.
We have 350 volunteers and not everyone could make it to our celebration but we were thinking of you!
A great night, wonderful food (thanks kitchen team Jane, Joka, Salima and Jess!) and brilliant company!

Our hugely talented dementia befriending coordinator Rowan played her banjo and sang some beautiful Irish folk songs for our dementia day club. Rowan took us to another place with her amazing voice. Everyone was mesmerised!
You can catch Rowan at our Summer Music Festival on Saturday 4 July when she'll be playing with her band Boxty
