Homeless Action in Barnet Our vision is a society where all people are valued equally whatever their personal circumstances and have a safe place to call home.

Our Aims
• To work together as equals with those who are homeless or threatened with homelessness to enable them to take control of their lives, obtain a suitable home, and maintain their tenancy.
• To ensure early intervention to enable clients to access the help they need.
• To work in partnership with other organisations and the people of Barnet.
• To be financially stable.
• To make a pivotal contribution to Barnet's homelessness and rough sleeping strategies.
• To speak with a distinctive voice on issues of homelessness. We have a drop in for rough sleepers Monday to Friday 9am to 12.30pm. All other visits are by appointment only.

We can tell you how many meals we serve, showers we provide and support sessions we deliver. But ultimately, there’s one outcome that matters most: helping people find and retain somewhere safe and secure to call home.

Recently, our team helped 17 people move into housing in just one month – that's 17 people beginning a new chapter.

We’re proud of every single one, but the first few months after moving into a new home can be a high-risk period. We'll continue to provide ongoing support for those who need it to help avoid a return to homelessness.

𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒂 𝒅𝒂𝒚 𝒂𝒕 𝑯𝑨𝑩 𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆?

A shower. A hot meal. Help with a housing application. A conversation with someone who listens. Support with benefits. A phone call to a landlord. A safe place to sit.
Often, it’s the combination of lots of small things that helps someone begin to move forward.

Every month, around 1,000 visits are made to our Support Hub. Typically over one-to-one 350 support sessions will be delivered by HAB staff and external partners each month.

Behind every number is a person, and because every person’s situation is different, the support they receive will be tailored to them.

Summer may only just be drawing to a close, but at HAB we are already looking ahead to the colder months.

From October through to April, our Winter Night Shelter provides a safe, warm place to sleep for people who would otherwise be facing nights on the streets of Barnet. But it is much more than a bed. Guests receive hot evening meals and breakfast, access to showers and essential facilities, alongside the specialist support they need to begin finding a route away from homelessness.

One of the things that makes the shelter so special is that it is truly a Barnet-wide community effort. Up to 20 faith and secular groups come together across the borough to host the shelter, supported by hundreds of local volunteers giving their time, kindness and practical support.

For someone facing a cold night with nowhere safe to go, that community can be transformative. It offers warmth and dignity in the immediate moment, but also the chance to sit down with someone, access help and begin taking the steps towards a more secure future.

As another winter approaches, we are incredibly grateful to everyone across Barnet who helps make that possible.

🧥 Could you help? We’re running short of men’s winter coats.

As the weather gets colder, we’re experiencing increasing demand for warm clothing and we’re currently particularly short of men’s winter coats.

If you have one in good condition that you no longer need, please consider donating it to HAB. Your donation could make a real difference to someone facing homelessness this winter.

We’re especially grateful for warm, practical coats in a range of sizes. Waterproof are best.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who involved in Barnet Big Sleep Out! 💛

We’re so grateful to every single person giving up the comfort of their bed, braving the night outside and raising vital funds to support people experiencing homelessness in Barnet.
