VOLUNTEERS WEEK GRATITUUUUDE ๐Ÿ’—

(Which is basically every week for us!)

Hereโ€™s to the people dedicating their hard-work, personality, knowledge, and heart to the land here at GROW. We couldn't do it without you!

Since 2019 we have welcomed over 785 volunteers to the Farm!

โ€œVolunteers on the GROW Farm are the soul that keep the vegetables growing, the flowers blooming, cake bakes supplied at our events!, and the bees buzzing. Without them, we wouldn't have honey, for example. This amazing community comes together to create a family, holding each other up when things are tough and celebrating every success. I truly cannot thank them enough for their time, their love, and their deep care for our farm.โ€ Farm Manager .

๐Ÿ„Merlin Sheldrake is coming to the GROW Farm!๐Ÿ„

We're incredibly lucky to welcome best-selling author, biologist, and mycologist .Sheldrake to the GROW Farm this July for a special evening exploring The Future of Youth in Mycology alongside our Fungi Academy students.

๐Ÿ“The GROW Farm at The Totteridge Academy
๐Ÿ“†7 July
โฐ๏ธ7โ€“9pm

WHY ARE WE HOSTING THIS EVENT?
Fungi hold key potential for the future โ€” from improving soil health and supporting biodiversity to strengthening food security in both urban and rural environments. GROW created the UKโ€™s first AQA-certified programme in Mushroom Cultivation & Mycology, created to empower young people facing barriers to education and employment.

We believe the next generation should be at the forefront of discovering what's possible with one of the most overlooked and transformative organisms on Earth.

This evening is an opportunity to hear from one of the world's leading voices in mycology, while celebrating the work our students are doing - and imagining what comes next.

How fungi can help shape more resilient food systems, healthier soils, and stronger communities? Why is outdoor cultivation, intercropping, and experimentation so important?

THE EVENING
๐Ÿ„Welcome and introduction to GROW's fungi programme
๐Ÿ„Guided fungi tour of the farm
๐Ÿ„Panel discussion: The Future of Youth in Mycology
๐Ÿ„Audience Q&A and networking

WHO'S IT FOR?
ALL AGES! Anyone curious about fungi, food systems, education, ecology, regenerative agriculture, or the future of growing. No prior knowledge needed.

๐ŸŽŸTickets are limited. wearegrow.org/events to secure your space - or just donate!

All profits raised from the event will be used to deliver more Fungi AQA's at GROW for young people, swipe or read more at wearegrow.org/fungi-adademy.

Thanks for coming to the GROW Plant Sale last Bank Holiday Monday! ๐Ÿชด๐Ÿฅตโ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ…๐ŸŒถ๐Ÿ†๐ŸŒธ

We broke our record for plant sale, selling over 1,500 plants across both dates! We want to say a HUGE thank you to our volunteers, alumni Manni, and farm team who have been working extra hard with watering during this extreme dry weather, making those sales possible.

It was lovely to see so many curious faces โ€” from people just starting out with gardening and asking how to plant in a raised bed, to participants from our programmes, students from our partner school, mini GROWers from our local network of primary schools, and new visitors exploring the farm.

There were agroecologically grown cucumbers, tomatoes, aubergines, snapdragons, cornflowers, chamomile, chillies, pumpkins, watermelons plants on sale plenty for all! And the money went to support our educational programmes with young people, families, schools communities & the farm.

Next opportunity to visit the farm? GROW FARM OPEN DAY 2026 on Saturday 27th June โ€” our largest event of the year and celebration. ๐Ÿฅณ With workshops, tours, food, live music, kidsโ€™ nature activities, pick you own flowers and a chance to learn all about what we do here.

Free and solidarity-priced tickets available.

GOODBYE LUCY ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿ’๐ŸŒˆโœจ๐Ÿธ

Yesterday was our Managing Director Lucy Hollis' last official day working here at GROW. Lucy was part of the founding team at GROW 7 years ago when it was just an empty piece of land. She has shaped, driven, and nurtured GROW into what it is today.

We are all truly grateful to you, Lucy! To have a manager who centres people, values, kindness, compassion and listening whilst also driving ahead with so much action and inspiration for an agroecological future and a fairer food system has been a deep honour.

We wish you the best of luck on your new journey - training to be a psychotherapist - continuing your mission of helping others, driven by care. You will be so missed, but we are also ready to embrace this exciting moment of change, and will announce our new MD very soon!

โ€œWorking at GROW has been one of the most meaningful parts of my life over the past seven years. Itโ€™s a place shaped by so many people, and it's been such a privilege to be a part of it. What Iโ€™ve valued most is how deeply GROW matters to local people, and the sense that itโ€™s always growing and evolving through the care of the community around it. Iโ€™m excited to follow GROWโ€™s successes from afar and have every confidence it will continue to influence agroecology in thoughtful, practical, and ambitious ways.

Signing the contract today for our new Student Stall Assistant, Asar-re, a Y12 student who I taught when he was in Y7, and welcoming him to the GROW team on my final day, felt like the perfect full-circle moment. Good luck, Asar-re, as you step into your first job and the world of agroecology!"

Onwards and upwards.

Spring Holiday Club โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿชฑ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿธ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ๐Ÿง„๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿฆ†

What a glorious week. 16 local young people spent time on the GROW farm studying for their Pond Dipping licence last month, cooking farm produce lunches with Head (including hand-foraged wild garlic pesto with handmade pasta), learning about pollinators, chicken care, harvesting and, most importantly, spending time appreciating the outdoors and making friends.

We had a beautiful time celebrating with families and doing demos (โ˜๏ธ) on the last day. Next Holiday Club: August 2026!
