➡️ How can we support the person who is busy caring for everyone else?

When one of our Camp Simcha families found themselves in hospital for a long-term stay with their child, our Family Liaison Officer jumped straight into action, putting together a hospital bag to take to mum.

The bag included toiletries and snacks through to a few extra comforts.

It may seem like a simple gesture, but having those essentials taken care of means mum can focus on what matters most: being there for her child, while knowing that someone is thinking of her too.

For families living with serious childhood illness, a moment of respite can mean the world.

At Camp Simcha, we see it every day: when a child is seriously ill, family life offers no pause button. There is no annual leave from hospital appointments, no sick pay when your child is unwell, and no easy back-up when treatment overruns and siblings still need collecting from school. For the families we support, exhaustion is not a phase; it is constant.

📣 Final call for all Bar & Bat Mitzvah aged children to join our 2026 programme 📣

There’s just a couple of weeks to go until our Kickstarter Evening, so if your child is approaching their Bar or Bat Mitzvah, now is the perfect time to get involved.

And don’t just take our word for it. One parent whose daughter took part last year told us:

Behind every Camp Simcha service a family receives is a Family Liaison Officer (FLO) - someone who sees, first-hand, the weight parents and children are carrying.

In this moving blog, linked below, one of our FLOs reflects on the impact of our Keshet Summer Day Scheme for two of her families, one whose child spent the summer undergoing intense treatment for a brain tumour and another with a rare, complex condition.

Illness took their summers away but Keshet gave the something back.

As our FLO explains: “When a family is already exhausted and overwhelmed, organising a simple outing can feel like a huge task.

“But having a beautiful day planned, with food provided, medics on site and everything taken care, of means they can simply turn up, be together and enjoy their children.

“For the siblings, it meant even more. Keshet gave them something to look forward to… excitement and fun and memories of their own, at a time when life is revolving around their sibling's illness. And it gave them something to talk about when their friends come home, bursting with details of their vacations.”

When hospital appointments, treatment plans and exhaustion take over family life, Keshet gives families back a little of what illness can so easily take away: joy, connection, normality and precious time as a family.

98% of parents who shared feedback said our Communities of Support groups helped them feel less isolated in managing their child’s condition.

95% of parents said they now have a network they can turn to for support and understanding

At Camp Simcha we recognise that having a seriously ill child impacts the whole family. That’s why we were delighted to welcome 32 Camp Simcha dads to our sound bath evening recently. A moment to switch off, if only for a few hours.

Here Nick Stolerman explains how the variety of sounds create an incredibly relaxing experience for the group.

But the evening wasn’t just about relaxation.

When your child is seriously ill, the pressures can be relentless…the appointments and treatments, the hospital stays, the sleepless nights, the constant worry. It’s exhausting, and it’s a weight that dads often carry silently.

Sharing experiences like this with others who truly understand what they’re going through helps create a community where dads can feel they don’t need to explain their situation.

Last week, we brought together mothers from our Manchester Epilepsy Community of Support group for an evening of connection and creativity.

Led by our Manchester art teacher Chava , the group created beautiful artwork together in a relaxed and welcoming setting. The mothers also had the opportunity to share the emotions that come with being a carer and talk about the anxiety and fears that so often go unspoken.

One parent summed it up: “Just THE best evening.”

Thank you, Chava, for running this lovely event and video. We see what a positive impact evenings like this have for families and how having a community can really make a difference.

✨ 41 girls. One amazing kickstarter event ✨

Last week in Manchester, 41 Bas Mitzvah-aged girls came together to launch our Bas Mitzvah programme for 2026 ~ and what an amazing way to kick things off!

It was a brilliant evening filled with creativity and plenty of fun, as the girls got stuck into a fabulous art session with the wonderful Anna Silver. It was the perfect opportunity for them to meet one another and begin their Bas Mitzvah journey together.

As these girls reach this special milestone, our programme gives them the chance to mark it with real meaning ~ creating memories, whilst learning about and supporting the work of Camp Simcha.

Thank you Anna for running such a fabulous session and to all 41 girls for bringing your creativity and enthusiasm!

Next stop: our Toy Drive Packathon, where they’ll get to pack toys and make a difference to Camp Simcha families.
