Wheels of Freedom for Thousands More than 420,000 received help from Yad Sarah in 2015.

Yad Sarah assists over 420,000 people across all services thanks to the help of our generous donors and our 9,000 volunteers. Yad Sarah, the largest volunteer-staffed organization in Israel, provides a vital array of compassionate health and home care services for people of all ages. Today, 40 years after it was founded, Yad Sarah now has 100+ branches throughout Israel staffed by more than 6,000

volunteers. Although the organization is best known for its extensive Lending Service for medical equipment, its 6,000+ volunteers also drive our wheelchair accessible vans, reach out to the homebound, advocate for the elderly at risk for abuse, provide in-home geriatric dental care, and staff our Play Center for children with special needs. Yad Sarah’s annual operating budget is financed almost completely by donations, over 70 percent of which are raised within Israel. No ongoing government assistance is received.

"Tamar" at home and provided a personalized evaluation to ensure her treatment could continue safely and accessibly.

Since retiring from the Israeli Air Force’s technical department, Natan Ophir has been volunteering at Yad Sarah’s Rishon LeZion equipment repair workshop.
Using the skills he learned in the IDF, he repairs and adapts medical and rehabilitative equipment to meet clients’ individual needs. “That’s what we do—we think outside the box and truly do everything we can to help,” Natan said. “Our fingers are just itching to do the work we’ve always been good at.” Read Natan’s story here: https://friendsofyadsarah.org/newsroom/newsletters

"I never thought I would need to use it," said Yaffa Shalom, a Yad Sarah volunteer who became a recipient of Yad Sarah's services after taking home an Emergency Alarm Button. One early morning, she woke up alone in severe pain. With a press of the button, a trained volunteer at Yad Sarah's Emergency Call Center answered Yaffa's call, assessed the situation, and dispatched an ambulance within minutes. At the hospital, doctors confirmed that the rapid response from Yad Sarah's volunteers may have saved Yaffa's life.

A single alert, saved a life.
When the SARA emergency monitoring system detected dangerously low oxygen levels and a critically high heart rate in one of our clients, a vigilant Yad Sarah operator sprang into action.
She immediately contacted the client's family, followed up when the situation worsened, and connected them with medical professionals who helped them understand the urgency of the moment. An ambulance was dispatched, and precious time was not lost.
Behind every alert is a dedicated team watching over those who need it most. This is the impact of SARA: technology, compassion, and quick action working together to save lives.
One alert. One phone call.
You too can save a life
