Ahead of the Makerfield by-election, we have written to all candidates to ask where they stand on banning trophy hunting imports.

The Labour Party manifesto included a commitment to ban the import of hunting trophies, yet the Government has still not implemented the policy or announced a timeline for doing so.

With Andy Burnham emerging as the frontrunner in the race, voters deserve to know whether he – and all the other candidates – support delivering this long-promised animal welfare measure.

We have asked each candidate:
1️⃣ If elected, would you support the introduction of a ban on hunting trophy imports?
2️⃣ Would you support a total ban or a partial ban, and why?
3️⃣ What steps would you take as an MP to help secure the introduction of a ban as quickly as possible?

Every year, thousands of big cats are bred in grim, factory-like facilities - not for conservation, but to be killed for sport, their heads mounted on walls and their bones sold on the black market.

A few years ago, the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting rescued a tiger cub named Sally, who had been bred in captivity for one terrifying purpose: to be killed as a trophy.
