In the beautiful village of Hangdewa, there is a special place around a banyan tree that is around 100 years old - a very peaceful place with outstanding views of Mt Kangchenjunga. Our alumni have made a vlog about its history and have worked together to make it an even more delightful spot, with flowering plants. The voiceover is Anjana, a previous Head Girl. We are extremely proud of our Karate ‘dojo’ (a dojo is a group of trainees). All of them are making consistent progress and putting in hours of hard work. Progress is evaluated from light colours to dark ones and, at each stage, the young people are given a new belt. Some have now moved on to yellow, orange, and even green belts. Well done everyone!

Online safety is of high importance for us as a school. The Nepal Government hasn’t yet put in safeguards for children accessing social media and, of course, this is very dangerous with scams, false identities and even blackmail being common. So, well done to our alumni working on a presentation for classes 3-10 to highlight just how scary the internet can be. Here is Feshan Udash Shrestha presenting what he knows is important. There has been a revolution going on in our library. During the pandemic, our children had only 50 books for them all to read: these had to be passed around carefully! Now we have a library of 1,600 books, some kindles and some laptops to borrow and the old lending spreadsheet was an inadequate way to continue! Millfield School has supported our school over the last three years in many critically important ways, and their recent donation was again from their librarians selling ice creams in the summer months, with profits going to our library. So, two of our alumni, Feshan and Bibesh, and two Class 9 boys Prabesh and Aayush, have been converting our library to a purpose-made software system which has all the normal library functions. Books are recorded with authors and titles which generates a QR code for borrowing/lending records. We shall now build some extra shelves and buy new books with the fantastic donation from Millfield School. Thank you Millfield School for remembering us and thank you also to the task force four boys for your great work.

Our children in both Hangdewa and Kathmandu are helping to provide emergency relief to the people caught up in the tragedy in the centre of the country on the border with Tibet, about 340 miles away. We are very proud of their involvement. Friends and relatives are missing and others are there helping. In the UK, Kate Jackson, one of our Q. After a week of sorrow and heartache for Nepal and for some of the families and friends of Hangdewa in the face of disaster, it is wonderful to see our young people enjoying the new table tennis tables: one for boys and one for girls. Until now, we have had just one made locally without a polished table top. We know how much these will be used! Donations for sports equipment come from donors around the world, and everyone of them is praying for Nepal and holding their breath for survivors to be found. 🙏

This song teaches us that the world looks beautiful when we look at it with a happy and loving heart. When we are kind and positive, we can see flowers, smiles and happiness everywhere. When we are angry or negative, we may see only problems and sadness. The song reminds children that a beautiful heart helps see the world as a beautiful place.
