Who we are
Leather Inside Out is a Camden based charity owning two companies, Leather Works London and S&K (Camden) which show case traditional leathercraft and serves the British and international accessories and interior design industries. Through these trading partners, Leather Inside Out provides retail and craft apprenticeships and employment contracts to serving prisoners on release on temporary licence and to ex-offenders on their release from custody.
In addition, its craft teaching programme offers expert instruction in the basics of machining, pattern cutting, hand stitching and craft techniques for serving prisoners in the closed prison estate. Leather Inside Out remunerates all participating beneficiaries according to the current levels of National Minimum Wage Act 1998, also providing pastoral and housing support and legal and immigration advisory guidance to its participants upon release from custody.
In delivering this paid, creative and meaningful work, Leather Inside Out promotes prison reform and rehabilitation and strives to eliminate discrimination against those sentenced by the courts of England and Wales, leading by example to the fashion industry and consumer alike and heralding a new zeitgeist for British craft, manufacturing and design.
Leather Inside Out wants to make prison work. We exist to deliver hope and opportunity to those committed to or convicted by the courts of England and Wales by providing education, skills in training and employment in the British Leathercraft industry and retail.
