Has your child ever been called 'naughty'?

What can look like bad behaviour is often an autistic child trying to tell us something: needing to move, feeling overwhelmed by noise or a busy playground, or finding it hard to express how they feel.

Understanding what's behind the behaviour changes how we respond, and helps your child feel understood rather than judged.

If you'd like to understand your child better, come and hear us speak at the SEND Show UK on Friday 9th October, 3.30pm to 4.30pm. We'll also be running a stall throughout the show for anyone with questions or who needs tips for supporting an autistic child or young adult. Find us at Stand B52.

Makaton isn't a sign language, but it wouldn't exist without one.

It's a communication system many of our learners use every day, giving non-speaking autistic children and young adults a way to share their thoughts, needs, and feelings without relying on spoken words.

It includes lots of signing, but because it's used alongside speech and doesn't have its own grammar, it isn't a sign language in its own right.

Many Makaton signs are borrowed from British Sign Language (BSL). So when we celebrate BSL, we're also celebrating every learner who communicates through signing.

Autistic girls are often diagnosed years later than boys, and there are a couple of reasons why. That delay in diagnosis often means less understanding, less support, and it can make it much harder for an autistic girl to ask for help when she needs it.

"Supporting an autism charity feels deeply personal, purposeful, and profoundly motivating, especially when my nephew and godson are autistic. I do it for them!"

Patrick was one of the cyclists who took on the challenge to ride 88km from London to Brighton to raise funds for BeyondAutism.

Patrick finished the event with an impressive time of under 4 hours, battling a 1000m elevation gain along the way.

"Proud, exhausted, and most importantly, grateful to be doing it for such a meaningful cause."

Park House School has been rated exceptional for inclusion by Ofsted. 🎉

The recent inspection rated BeyondAutism's primary school, Park House, with the highest possible outcome for inclusion, which is only awarded to a small percentage of schools across the UK.

"Leaders have developed a highly personalised and exceptionally effective approach to inclusion... Pupils belong here. They are included in all aspects of school life," the report says.

Park House also received strong standards across every other area inspected: achievement, wellbeing and personal development, leadership and governance, and attendance and behaviour.

"The school’s multidisciplinary approach is a defining strength…Behaviour is understood consistently as communication and adults respond calmly and precisely to pupils’ emotional needs. As a result, pupils increasingly engage in learning, tolerate change and participate in wider aspects of school life," the report continues.

Included, not excluded - that's not just our slogan. It's what this report proves, in Ofsted's own words.
