HOPE International Development Agency - UK

HOPE International Development Agency - UK HOPE brings help and hope to the world's poorest families. Our vision is to work with local communities to bring clean water to villages in Ethiopia.

HOPE International Development Agency UK extends help to the poorest of the poor so they can regain or improve their self-sufficiency. Our efforts create long-term, self-sustaining benefits for people by teaching them income generating skills, and developing family and community infrastructures like education, vocational training, sustainable agriculture practices, disease prevention, revolving loan funds, and community planning methods. Changes to a community must be spearheaded by the community. Our support for families and their communities is helping them help themselves.

Yesterday was International Day of the Girl Child.

When a community has clean water close to home, girls spend less time collecting it and more time in the classroom. With safe sanitation and hygiene, they can learn, grow and thrive with dignity.

At HOPE, we are proud to work alongside communities in Ethiopia to help every girl have the chance to reach her full potential.

ADDITIONAL INVESTMENTS FOR CHANGE - In Garo Korpha, Southern Ethiopia, change is happening on every front.

HOPE UK recently completed a project bringing clean water, sanitation, livelihoods skills and environmental protection to this community. Now, HOPE Japan, in partnership with Panasonic, is complementing these efforts with the delivery of 400 solar lanterns, bringing light to around 340 people, including schoolchildren, teachers and families.

For Aster and her family of five, it took just ten minutes to set up. Three minutes of charging gave light at full brightness.
"It brings such peace of mind to have light in the evenings," she told us. "Until now, I had to walk an hour into town and pay a fee just to charge my phone, but now I can do it with this lantern."

Water Livelihoods Light.

Together, these projects are helping Garo Korpha build a brighter future, day and night.

AN UPDATE ON ARAT BER - Since HOPE's clean water project reached this community, the benefits keep growing.

Siraye, a mother of four, used to spend her days as a housewife with no way to earn an income. Today she runs her own small business selling onions, garlic, salt, oil and spices, using a loan she accessed through her Self-Help Group.

"I didn't hesitate when they asked me to join the self-help group. I had been waiting for an opportunity like this"

This is what clean water makes possible. Siraye has been gifted time to invest in earning money for her family now that she has local, clean water access, just minutes from her home.

SMALL CHARITY WEEK: HOPE in action.

As a small charity, we work directly with communities. You see the projects you support. You understand the impact of your giving.

You hear the stories from the communities we serve and see real change taking place.

That's how we operate. With transparency. With connection. With real accountability.

We're proud to be part of Small Charity Week.

WHAT A RUN! - Yesterday Simeon and Joy successfully completed their epic 170km, 4-day Tour du Mont Blanc in Switzerland. “We're done! By God’s grace, we made it. Rather exhausted that's for sure and in slight disbelief at how far we ran”, Sim shared. 😂. SELF HELP GROUPS IN ARAT BER - Every week these women come together to save money and help each other start businesses.

Here's how it works: 20 women in a group save an agreed amount of money weekly. They create a loan fund together. When a woman has a business idea, she borrows from the group.

HOPE provides training in entrepreneurial skills, but the women do the real work. They save, they support each other, they start an income generating activity and they build their own futures.

This is how women in Arat Ber are gaining financial independence and real power in their families and communities.

If you want to support these women and this initiative, please donate using this link - https://www.hope-international.org.uk/donate.

Thank You.
