Ashden We champion practical, local energy solutions that cut carbon, protect the environment, reduce poverty and improve people's lives. We’re all about networks.

Ashden's privacy policy: https://www.ashden.org/privacy-policy Ashden's mission is to accelerate transformative climate solutions and build a more just world. Our awards, events, networks and analysis support climate innovation in the UK and developing countries around the globe. We back outstanding organisations and initiatives because on-the-ground solutions will drive the system changes our pla

net needs. We understand that the best climate solutions deliver enormous benefits today – benefits such as better health, higher incomes and more equal societies. For two decades the Ashden Awards have accelerated the most exciting climate innovators. We find our winners through a rigorous global search, then work with them to scale up their impact and inspire others. Their insights power everything we do. We help organisations learn and share ideas through masterclasses and workshops, and bring them closer to their key audiences – from local authorities in the UK to investors in energy access. Climate champions are worth shouting about. So we share their stories in the media and on film, and showcase them through events and reports. But our work doesn’t stop there. We are helping UK schools radically lower their emissions (and their energy bills too), and demand change through our nationwide Let’s Go Zero campaign. We are helping climate innovators withstand the coronavirus pandemic, and power the green recovery. We are fighting for universal energy access, and a locally-led response to the climate emergency. Every day we work for a fairer planet, and a brighter future.

It is with pleasure to announce Plymouth Energy Community as a finalist for The 2026 Ashden Award for Local Energy Innovation ⚡️

Plymouth Energy Community creates warm, energy-efficient homes – and locally owned solar power – for the city’s residents. Its diverse work benefits people who don’t have a voice in the energy system, but are affected by its inherent unfairness: lowering their fuel bills and generating funds for good causes.

This award is for those who are putting the power into the hands of the local communities by creating warmer homes, lower bills and more support for the UK's carbon zero journey.

This year the Ashden Awards ceremony will be invite only, however you will be able to watch via a livestream on our YouTube channel.

Earlier this month, at The Conduit London, we hosted Financing Community-led Forest Protection as part of our Thriving Forests programme, bringing together funders, practitioners and cohort organisations working across forest communities in the Congo Basin, Cameroon, Gabon, Indonesia and beyond.

Alongside honest discussions about funding barriers, the evening also focused on practical solutions already being led by IPLC organisations: sustainable livelihoods linked to forest protection, stronger community stewardship, local monitoring systems, and called for more direct funding reaching organisations rooted in forest communities.

Participants also shared commitments for what they could do differently, from exploring more flexible funding approaches to creating stronger pathways for direct support and collaboration.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed so openly to the discussions 💚 Nsombou Abalghe-Dzal Association (NADA), Mbou-Mon-Tour, Cameroon Gender and Environment Watch (CAMGEW)

Great to see the Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham visit Ashden Award winner B4Box last month.

B4Box are a Greater Manchester based SME who undertake retrofit projects alongside general building repair and maintenance works. To help address the skills gaps and grow its own repair/retrofit capacity, B4Box developed an innovative purpose-led business model, that integrates both repair/ retrofit delivery and training provision at no extra cost to clients.

The B4Box model addresses co-ordination between the skills system and employers, which often falls down in the Construction Sector, and is so critical for hitting homes decarbonisation targets.

A great model to replicate and support - for whoever takes high office.
